The Stories

X-Files Fanfic by Leigh Alexander

Welcome to X-Files fan fiction: the non-televised adventures of our trusty heroes, Mulder and Scully.

Now I'm the first one to admit that I have a strong Scully bias. When I first starting writing fanfic I found that most stories seemed to concentrate on Mulder's point-of-view and emotions, leaving Scully by the wayside. To balance that, I chose to write most of my stories either from her perspective or on issues that primarly concerned that wonderful female agent. Nowadays the focus is much more evenly balanced but I still find myself leaning to more Scully-oriented stories. You'll still find a lot of Mulder in my fanfic, but usually the emphasis is on Scully. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

The line below the title includes the brief, basic details of the stories, utilising the Gossamer system. For those of you unfamiliar with it, I suggest you read their FAQ which gives a great explanation of how it all works. I've outlined the story's rating, size, category, date of first posting (in dd/mm/yy format), spoilers and keywords.

If you want to read the most recent stuff, I've marked the new, newer and newest stories.

After the Funeral
PG | 4K | VA | 26/9/98 | Emily | Mulder/Scully friendship

A very short vignette that focuses on Mulder's feelings during the final scene in "Emily". From the Scully-devotee, a piece centering completely on Mulder's point-of-view...

After the Push: Questions
PG | 15K | SA | 23/4/96 | Pusher | Mulder/Scully friendship

A follow-up to "Pusher".

Back and Forward
PG | 130K | SA | 27/1/99 | The pilot and the movie | Mulder/Scully UST

This is the closest thing I've ever written to an X-File. Scully and Mulder go back to the town of Bellefleur, Oregon six years after the events of the pilot. It's a long piece, but I think it's worth a read.

Blurred Vision
PG | 71K | SRA | 24/2/96 | None | Scully/other romance

When Scully gets a boyfriend, the problems begin. An old story that I keep promising I'm going to write a sequel to...

The Choice I
PG | 30K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully UST

This was the original story that then led to five sequels. In Gossamer, all six parts have been merged, but I prefer to keep them seperate, as they were intended. I have not summarised each part for fear of giving away important plot points. Suffice it to say that I'm fairly certain once you've read the first part, you probably won't need further incentive to keep going. I do urge you to note the posting date for this story. It was actually written back in 1996, so don't be confused by the lack of references to season four and onwards!

In this part, a stranger tells Mulder a story that he can't help believing. Leaving him to make a choice...

The Choice II: Aftermath
PG | 30K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully UST

The Choice III: Return
PG | 24K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully UST

The Choice IV: Awakening
PG | 28K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully UST

The Choice V: Memory
PG | 21K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully UST

The Choice VI: Home
PG | 35K | SA | 3/4/96 | None | Mulder/Scully romance

The Discovery
PG | 25K | SRA | 19/6/96 | None | Mudler/Scully romance

This is my exploration of the idea of Mulder and Scully as lovers. There's a little surprise in here.

Evident Need
PG | 58K | SA | 29/7/97 | Memento Mori | Mulder/Scully friendship

Mulder and Scully must deal with her disease - each in their own way, of course. A detailed delve into the repurcussions of "Memento Mori" based on the idea "what if it got worse?"

Facets of Want
PG | 9K | VA | 14/8/97 | None | Mulder/Scully romance

A short vignette. Mulder and Scully finally become lovers, but is it the right thing?

Four Hallways NEW
PG | 9K | VAR | 21/3/00 | MM, FTF, FE: AF and Closure | Mulder/Scully romance

First-person Scully story. She's thinking about all those hallways...

Halfway There
PG | 135K | SA | 11/11/96 | Nisei/731 | Mulder/Scully friendship

Scully thinks she's found Samantha. However, what she's actually found is much, much more than she was looking for.

The Horny Beast
PG | 19K | VRH | 6/6/96 | Syzygy | Mulder/Scully romance

My one and only humorous fanfic to date. A very silly story with the premise that it was Scully not Detective White knocking on Mulder's hotel room door in "Syzygy".

In Sickness
R | 19K | VA | 2/9/97 | Memento Mori | Mulder/Scully friendship

A harsh vignette that looks at the reality of Scully's disease and its treatment. Just from Scully's POV as Mulder is witness to her most shameful moments. A personal favourite.

Just a Dream?
PG | 13K | VA | 31/1/97 | Nisei/731 | None

Scully is forced to think about her life.

Melissa's Funeral
PG | 25K | SA | 12/1/96 | Paper Clip | Mulder/Scully friendship

At her sister's funeral, Scully finds that the only one she can unburden herself to is her partner.

Night
PG | 12K | VRA | 1/3/97 | None | Mulder/Scully romance

An attempt at using a more evocative and descriptive style of writing. Mulder and Scully have just made love for the first time and now they have to adapt to this new relationship.

Out of the Cage NEWER
PG | 11K | VRA | 24/4/00 | all things | Mulder/Scully romance

The obligatory post-'all things' fic. It's different to the rest, I swear! :)

Searching for the Heart
PG | 67K | SA | 23/3/97 | Paper Hearts | Mulder/Scully UST

Scully takes on the challenge of finding Roche's final victim. In doing so, she must deal with more than she anticipated.

Scully's Choice
R | 17K | VRA | 10/3/99 | None | Mulder/Scully romance

This story has nothing to do with "The Choice" series. In this vignette, Scully is forced to choose between two lives. Her decision pushes her away from Mulder causing a split that could be too complete to fix.

Something Wrong, Something Right
PG | 20K | VRA | 6/9/98 | None | Mulder/Scully romance

I just can't be gentle with them when they're together, can I? After Scully gets a nosebleed, Mulder and she have a fight.

Testing Times I: Light
PG | 46K | SA | 20/8/98 | Season five and movie | Mulder/Scully UST

Scully is abducted again, only this time neither she nor Mulder knows about it. However, they eventually find out and with that knowledge comes an even more serious revelation, one that Scully is reluctant to talk about with her partner.

Thoughts I: Thoughts on a Rainy Day
G | 8 | VA | 4/10/96 | Paper Clip | None

When there's nothing else to do, Scully starts thinking.

Thoughts II: Wired Thoughts
G | 7K | VA | 27/11/96 | Wetwired | None

After what happened in "Wetwired", Scully must think about the concept of trust. Does she really blame Mulder for everything that has happened to her?

You Can't Go Home Again NEWEST
PG | 75K | SRA | 09/09/01 | Existence | MSR, Mulderangst, babyfic

Taking up from where Existence left off, this fic is my attempt to answer some of the unresolved issues that were raised in this season. Once again, I've done the unthinkable, and have decided to write a story purely from Mulder's point-of-view.

When the Worst Happens
PG | 10K | VA | 15/6/98 | None | Mulder/Scully friendship

Scully rushes to Mulder's side after Samantha is shot dead.

A small word on feedback (or: I don't want to beg, but...)
For those of you who have written fanfic, I know you'll understand what I mean when I talk about the importance of feedback. For those of you who haven't, I hope I can give you a small indication.
I adore writing fanfic. Most of my pleasure in being a fanfic author comes from the actual writing process - stewing over how the story is going to unfold, wondering if that's how the character's would *really* act, and exploring all the different ways of describing Mulder and Scully looking at each other - these are the factors that keep me going. However, I do have another motivation: feedback.
Over the past three years I've received comments that have varied from "loved it" to "hated it", and I've relished it all. The constructive criticism I've had has helped me *immensely*. If you read some of my earlier stories ("The Choice" series, "Blurred Vision" etc) compared to my more recent efforts ("Evident Need", "In Sickness" or "Night") then I know you'll be able to see the difference, and I am eternally grateful to those kind souls for their impact on my work. That's an example of how feedback has had a practical effect, but I'm not going to stand here and deny the equally powerful influence of the *other* type of feedback - the ego-feeding sort. The "I loved it" responses keep me going from one story to the next, and without either type of comment, I can't help feeling that I'm writing in a vacuum. And as much as I enjoy the personal fulfillment I get from writing, it's a lovely fillip to hear that other people are also finding these stories worthwhile, or interesting.
So, please *do* let me know what you think. Whether you hated or loved a particular story, I'd love to hear your comments. Thanks. :)
