Spike (James Marsters)
As a human he was nothing more than a nervous, aspiring writer. They called him William the Bloody due to fact that his poetry was "bloody awful" and he didn't have much luck with the ladies. His losing streak continued when he was sired by a vampire named Drusilla, whom William was very attracted to.

Decades pass and William takes a new name, Spike, from his fondness to torture his victims with railroad spikes. He manages to kill a vampire slayer during the Boxer Rebellion and second in New York during the 80's.

He came to Sunnydale to add a third notch on his belt. Only this time, he found that Buffy and friends were more than he could handle. This slayer was tougher than most and had a small army of loyals by her side. Spike didn't give up his quest for the head of the slayer until he was implanted with a chip by the highly-secrective 'Initiative'. With this chip hindering his ability to hurt humans, he's become a friend and ally. Oh yeah, he's also head over heels in love for his former nemesis Buffy. Will he go bad again? Probably, according to creator Joss Whedon. Is he now cooler than ever? Yes, yes he is.

Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar)
She was a normal, popular teenage girl getting through high school the best she could. Then one day her life was turned upside down as she learned that she was the "Slayer". Buffy and her mom were forced to move away after she, well, burnt down her school gym. How she avoided serious jail time for that we'll never know.

At the end of last season Buffy sacrificed herself to close the gate between earth and the hell dimensions. By doing this she prevented the accocalypse... Again. Her tombstone read, Buffy Anne Summers, 1981-2001, 'She Saved the World A Lot'. Her friends and family were destroyed and did everything they could to fight off the evil still lurking in Sunnydale.

Months after her death, Willow was ready to try to bring her back. Was it right? No, and they all knew it. But the fact was Buffy's spirit may not have actually been dead. She wasn't killed in a normal fashion, she died by a mystical energy that was the hell-gate. This was all the reassurance they needed. But when they tried the spell nothing happened. Buffy didn't appear as they thought she might and that was that. Finally, Buffy was really gone. Or was she? Below six feet of earth, far from the watchful eyes of her friends, Buffy was was ressurected... Buried alive. After a sanity-losing struggle she managed to dig herself out of her own grave. Turns out her soul wasn't trapped in hell like her friends had thought. She had been in heaven, and they ripped her away from it. Well, guess it's the thought that counts.

Dawn Summers (Michelle Trachtenberg)
So I'd been watching the show for five years and didn't much notice Buffy had a sister. And then all of a sudden there she was, like she'd been there all along. Not to worry, the writers didn't make a mistake, Dawn is 'The Key'. Oh! That makes much more sense. I'll try to explain.

An order of monks were sworn to forever protect the key that unlocked the hell dimensions on earth. When the monks began failing in their task they came up with a brilliant plan to turn the key into a human being. No one would think 'The Key' would be a person, right? So anyways, after they added fake memories into the minds of Dawn's friends and family the monks set her loose into the slayers protection. Who better than to look over the key?

It was only a few months later that the gang figured out Dawn wasn't really Buffy's sister, but a being made by these monks. At first they weren't sure of her intentions, but they soon learned that Dawn infact had the same memories as they. For all she knew she was Dawn Summers. It took a while, but everyone got used to it. Even Spike, who'se now sworn to keep her from harm.

Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan)
We knew Willow as a shy computer hacker as the series began. She didn't have anything in the way of physical prowess, so she helped the gang by researching and 'figuring stuff out'. Well, until the 4th season when all of a sudden she became a witch. I dunno, dont ask me how this happened. This new skill of hers has greatly benfitted the gang. Recently she's become an indespensible member of the team, sometimes more powerful than Buffy herself. She helped take down the god Glorificus and recently did that little task of, oh... BRINGING BUFFY BACK TO LIFE. Yeah. She's, uh, pretty powerful.

Her only boyfriend was Oz, the guitarist for 'A Dingo Ate My Baby' and a warewolf. These two were great together until Oz could no longer control his warewolf side enough to be around Willow, and he left to some unknown place. He came back, once, but Willow was already with her new significant other: The less powerful witch known as Tara. Talk about a blow to a guy's self esteem. That's brutal.

Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendan)
Xander is best described as the ultimate slacker. He opted to work construction rather than go to college with his friends, and he spends endless hours infront of the TV. However, he did manage to aquire a beautiful, high maintenance girlfriend named Anya (a former vengeance demon) and he spends a good deal of time with her. Okay, so he's got that going for him, which is nice. Now he's not as much of a slacker as he used to be.

Dont get me wrong, Xander hasn't exactly been livin' it up on easy street. He's fallen in love with a praying mantiss, dated Cordelia (shudder), had Spike as his roomate, been turned into a hyena and has been almost killed by about every kind of demon in existance. Though no matter the hardships he's faced he's still hilarious and has a witty comeback for just about everything, even if it's not the time for jokes. He's the glue that holds the group together.

Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head)
As a child Rupert Giles had told his father he wanted to grow up to become a fighter pilot. Or a grocer... you know, whats the difference, really? Much to his dismay, young Rupert's destiny had already been set by his blood line. He'd grow to become a 'Watcher', his sworn duty to train and mold the slayer into a well oiled machine. Though he keeps his past private, it's evident that he had a rough adolescence before he became the watcher.

He fell in with the worst crowd that would have him and started fooling around with witchery. They evoked the demon called Eyghon and let him into their bodies for a great high. Eventually one of them lost control over the demon and he was killed. It was twenty years before Eyghon resurfaced again and Giles, or 'Ripper' as he was formerly called, helped Buffy to destroy it. Recently, Giles made another 'not very watcher-like move' when he smothered to death a human named Ben. Knowing that Ben and the evil God Glorificus were linked, he killed Ben so that Glory could never come back and do harm to others. Even the Slayer couldn't bring herself to kill him.

When Buffy was killed last season Giles turned the 'Magic Box' over to Anya and moved back to England, feeling guilt and remorse for not being able to prevent her death.

Anya (Emma Caulfield)
A former vengeance-demon, Anyanka made a living by torturing men who had scorned women. A noble profession, but alas Anya forcefully retired at the age of 1120. She came to Sunnydale to do that magic she does and met up with the Scooby gang. During a messy situation involving Cordelia, Anya's powers were taken from her and she was turned back into a human.

A couple years later she returned to Sunnydale to see Xander whom she still had feelings for. Initially, she just wanted to have sex with him, which Xander obviously didn't mind. But the two found themselves a good pair and are now engaged to be married. Anya now runs the 'Magic Box' which was left to her upon Giles's departure to England.

Tara (Amber Benson)
She was cute, stuttering and shy when she met Willow at their school's Wicca meeting (my school doesn't have a wicca meeting...). When Willow voiced her opinions about how lame these so called 'Wiccans' were, Tara was the first and only to stand up for her. Actually, they were only real witches in the whole group, it was basically just play time for the others.

Tara comes from a line of powerful witches and was told that if she developed her powers she'd turn into some sort of demon. Someone was obviously messing with her because this never happened. Anyhow, though her powers of witchery are decent they dont come near the power of her lover, Willow.
