Comics are graded on a scale of F (worst) to A+ (the best of the best, miss it at risk of public humiliation). However, most grades fall somewhere inbetween. In the six months or so that I've been doing FI, I've only had one "F" grade, and I've yet to give out an "A+." Average grade is probably a B. I'd like to announce a few changes in the review format of FI. Instead of just reviewing "new" comics, which is what I've done (with a few exceptions), I'll be reviewing a variety of comics, each with a different label. First Impressions -refers to a review of a comic released within the last three months. Second Impressions -refers to a second look at a comic previously reviewed. This is to be used on high-profile books and on books which create a high level of disagreement among people. Past Impressions -refers to a review of a comic *not* released within the last three months. In other words: back issue reviews. Pre-Impressions -refers to a review of a comic which has not yet been released; preview material. Don't expect too many of these. Second Opinion -refers to a review of a comic I have reviewed, but this time by a special guest reviewer. Anyone willing to contribute can contribute. E-mail me privately for information. Now, enough administrative stuff;
the reviews !
First Impressions - 16/09/98 Welcome back, dear readers, to another fabulous issue of FIRST IMPRESSIONS, Ross Binder's award-winning comic book reviews ! A pretty good week of comics, really. Two DC One Mil tie-ins (SUPERBOY and SUPERMAN) ate up a few extra dollars and I picked up GEN 13 #33 solely for the PLANETARY preview, but nearly everything else was stuff that I would regularly buy. On a sad note, this week featured the final issue of DC's terribly underrated CHASE series. As with the rest of the series, it was fantastic. Beyond the comics reviewed within, I also bought The DOOM PATROL: Crawling From the Wreckage TPB. It was okay. Compared to the rest of the super-team dreck available, though, I guess it was pretty spiffy. But when set next to Morrison's later DP issues or his INIVISIBLES series, it's not near as good. Plus, Richard Case's early artwork is terrible. This week we have reviews, including eight by me and super-special "Second Opinion" reviews ! THUNDERBOLTS #20("Second Opinion" review by Sander DeVoogdt) Best Book of the Week: CHASE #1000000 Worst Book of the Week: GEN 13
#33 (just the Gen 13 story)

First Impressions - 02/09/98 Hi there. A pretty good week of comics, actually. DC ONE MILLION seems to be off to a fairly promising start; I finally got my copy of SAVAGE SHE-DRAGON #52; and there were a few other goodies, too. Also, anyone who is willing can contribute a review to FIRST IMPRESSIONS. It doesn't even have to be about a comic I review; it could be absolutely anything (well, no PENTHOUSE COMIX, this is a family newsletter :). Finally, don't be afraid to tell
me what you think about FI. If you think it's the worst thing you've
ever read and that I took twenty very valuable minutes away from your life,
please tell me that and tell me what I can fix to make it more enjoyable.
And if you think I'm doing a bang-up job, please tell me that, too.
It'll make getting the first type of e-mail much more bearable. :)

Yeah, this is amazingly late. I can't really blame anything, except my own laziness. I think I need an editor to get me going ... ;) And be sure to tell me (at RWB7210@aol.com)
and Jason, who generously provided space for FI and who also is in charge
of putting 'em up. I'm eternally in Jason's debt. Be sure to
tell him what you think (s169150@student.uq.edu.au).
