Tonight I shall be talking about the subject of word association. This is a technique much used in the practice of psychoanalysis, and one that has occupied the majority of my attention for the last five years. It is quite remarkable how much this so-called word association influences the manner in which we all speak. And the really surprising part is that a lot of the time we may be effectively quite unaware of the fact that we are even doing it. So, my contention is that unless we take into account in our thinking this phenomenon, we shall not be able satisfactorily to understand about human nature, man's psychological makeup, and hence the very meaning of life itself.
