03/17/02 (?)
Well, again, too much has happened between journal entries. One of my highschool friends wrote me and I was mortified to realize that my response was a month late. I don't feel the time slipping by, but the stacks of bills and old art assignments say otherwise. I never know what day it is, it doesn't matter - I'd just have to ask again tomorrow. In highschool I'd wake up at 5:30am, knowing the date and every dumb thing I'd be asked for. I knew every minute, every hour, every insignificant day until my escape to college. Kids are so smart/dumb.

It's been over six months and surprise - EVERYTHING'S CHANGED.  The plastilina horror - I got an A.  I got an A in Figure Drawing too.  I started thinking "well, fuckin yeah, I belong here in art school!"  Then Intermediate Figure Drawing struck and found me copying Michelangelo on MUNI to forget the tears running out of my eyes.  Thus far, this is my most cherished memory of art school.

In January I moved to San Francisco, culminating the restlessness which had been building up for the past couple years.  I now live under the watchful eyes of a conservative Chinese woman who insists on being seen more as family than a lessor.  Sure, and my mother would break in to replace all our bulbs with dim energy savers...  One of the hourse rules actually says "No male visitors after 10:00pm"  Guess I'd be homefree if I was a lesbian.  It's creepy behavior but I choose to do nothing because an affordable room is still hard to find.  Otherwise, I love living here.

Friday, I had a couple drinks with Gabby, and it seems we have quite a few things in common.  :">  Waiting for MUNI, I watched the wind whipping her hair wildly and was quite taken with how beautiful she was.  It made me realize that in spite of all the turmoil we've weathered, our exteriors remain untouched.  To uninitiated eyes, we're still pretty girls that cool things sorta happen to.

By the end of July I hope to apply for a Xeric grant to publish a collection of my old pre-art school comix (thanks for your suggestion, David).  In August I'll be in Italy for a couple weeks.  I'll be very busy again.

Three weeks ago, I've learned that the man of my dreams does, in fact, exist.  This may be my "happily ever after."  Undertanding this brings me intense joy and scares the crap out of me.

Spent my last free afternoon fixing the website. I still have no idea what Geocities did to my pages and now I'm too fried to speculate. Tomorrow I'm back to classes and staying late to finish the plastilina horror (figure I'm building from armature to bones to muscles) Having dinner now.

11/1/00

Looks like the site is having technical difficulties. Lisa is (guess what!) really busy, and it'll take a little time for her to fix whatever is wrong with the images.

I've been busy too, somehow, so I don't have anything interesting, clever, boring, or stupid to say right now.

Oh, I get it now. While she's in school, Lisa has me updating her site to keep me out of trouble. I see it all clearly...

Actually, what if there was a support group, funded by the art school, for all the friends, families, and significant others who have to deal with art students.

We'd have conversations like:

"And last night he just ripped my head off for borrowing one of his fancy shmancy art pens."

"Waitaminute, aren't reviews today?"

"Oh, that's right, he's in class as we speak. I hope he's getting a good review."

"That's probably why he snapped. He's nervous about the review. See, it's not your fault. Now, let's all have a group hug. And remember, greet your art student with a smile. Make them feel loved!"

Maybe we could all learn how to make victory gardens. Or bake cakes.

No real update today. Lisa is busy in art classes and I'm trying to figure out why a book about the funerary practices from ancient times to Victorian England is located in the Wit and Humor Collection in the S.F. Public Library.

So instead, try Josh and Joe's journal pages. Any sort of praise from me would sound like I'm kissing up to them, so just go there and read.

Enjoy.

October 10th is the date that the Chinese republican revolution began (back in 1911) and when the age-old imperial governmental system ended. There is a lot of fascinating history in that time period, up until the rise of the Communist Party (1949). Then it becomes fascinating AND painful to read about.

There is a writer by the name of Lu Xun who wrote fiction and social commentary during that time period. He is considered China's first modern writer. His themes dealt with the inherant contractions in Chinese culture.

My personal favorite is a short story about a man who discovers these "hidden instructions" in some old Confucian texts. Confucianism, he realizes, instructs people to eat other people, and so the protagonist grows more insane and paranoid that his neighbors will chop him up and serve him over rice.

For those who don't know, Confucianism emphasizes proper behavior, duty, and family loyalty. I suppose what he meant was, if you let them, your family will eat you alive.

No wonder I'm losing weight lately.
