Remember

by Jon McFarland

To all the ones I took for granted
Those who God created rotten
You are lost but not forgotten
Only time can heal the wounds I’ve branded

I stand upon the mounds of roses-
My friends, my scars, my dying insight
Standing alone’s a daily fight
Oh, the wonders that guilt proposes

The sands of time can cover your grace
My memory fades from day to day
Light and dark mixes to gray
But still it’s hard to forget your face

The chains that clench to the lines of skin
Hold your pain against my own
I feel that sorrow down to the bone
Equipped, I feel together again

Then shadow-graved today begins
The warm and cold flood my senses
I remember you on the right pretenses
And envy your home, exempt of sins
