Welcome to Mars.

i had to let you see this nice and large...Hubble is the best telescope you can ever hope to see an image stolen from...Just look at the clouds...and all the wonderful detail.

Yep, if you want to bypass NASA and go see the Mars Pathfinder directly, here is a map. The green cross marks the spot...

Sojourner ModuleA very nice image of Sojourner. Ok, so it's black and white, but you get a very good view of the machine in action. In black and white, it almost looks like Sojourner is in the Sahara, or even Utah. Well, more like Nevada...

Why wheels? Legs, like a spider would have been more practical. Ok, so it would have had to look two spiders, one on top of each other, the top one upside down...but I digress.

But then you add color, and you know you are not in Kansas anymore.

Sojourner on it's Lander. The stark contrast between the bright colors and reflections off Sojourner, and the bleak orange landscape is quite outstanding. It seems hard to believe that the lander, air bags, and rover are really in this picture.

Nice and bright, considering that Mars is further from the sun. Now if we could only bring the blue skies of earth with us...

Here is a composite of the lander, airbag, and rover. Much closer, you can make out the spikes on the wheels, and more.

And you can still see all the solar panels on the lander. Those are all those little black tiles, amid the rust covered plates. And on top of the rover too, for that matter.

That air bag sure looks like a parachute, doesn't it...

But it's not.

Here is another composite photo. It is a little rusty...

It is also a good view of the airbag. Hope the lander had it's seat belt on as well, the two are supposed to work in conjunction...

Those dark triangles are just shadows under an outcropping, not a cave with some martian lurking underneath. A very good image, especially with the mountain in the distance.

And the rocks on Mars really do look like rocks on Earth. Worn with time, wind, and sand.

Even the little ones.

Enjoy your trip to Mars?
