Winston seems to have an almost mystic understanding of the physical universe. That is, put him in front of a panel and he'll figure it out. He is technically inclined, smart, and adaptive. This also makes him good at space navigation and tactics. These abilities seem to be returning slowly after his accident (see below). Family Background: Father, Jene, was a supervisor in the AC Warp Engine Design Group on Alpha Centauri, he is deceased.
Mother, Jenni, is living on AC, and is very involved in local politics. She owns a very large house in a small town, called Albanis. She has since remarried, to a gruff Andorian named Xaks.
History: Winston Travers graduated with honors form Starfleet Academy. He was well known on campus for his potrayal of Captain Kirk in the play "Damn the Regulations" which he co-wrote.
His first assignment was a cushy job on Earth as a shuttle pilot, garnered so he could continue on with the fleet entertainment division. You might have seen him in such entertaining Holos as "Warp Fields and You", "Borg Hand-to-Hand", and "Pon-Farr, A Vulcan Amok". He quickly tired of this life however, and requested transfer to the main fleet.
Assigned to the USS Covenant in the Helm department, he soon proved himself a skilled pilot, and a bit of a "Jack-Of-All-Trades", his book learning standing in good stead for his lack of experience. Captain Stone entered two commendations into his record during his year of service. During an encounter with the Tholians in which Captain Stone was captured, First Officer Sawyer entered a commendation into the ship's log for Traver's handling of the Tactical Station in a crisis. Many of the Covenant crew were discovered on the surface of a hostile world near Tholian space, but the Covenant has yet to be found.
With the disappearance of the Covenant still being investigated, Travers was reassigned, pending a definitive answer on the whereabouts of the ship. Information pertaining to this investigation has been classified Security Status 1, and Travers is forbidden to discuss the detail of this encounter with anyone. During the investigation, he became close friends with Captain Ber'ril Isakys, of the USS Vigilant
His next assignment was aboard the USS Hyperion as Chief Navigator. He was a bridge officer during its Diplomatic mission to Gorn for the Emperor's funeral, when it was revealed that the Dominion and Romulans were working together in some capacity to keep the Federation and Gorn apart. Travers piloted the ship during an ambush by the Romulans in which nearly the entire Federation task force attending was destroyed. The Hyperion escaped, but was so badly damaged that it was decommissioned.
Travers was the first Nav officer on the new Hyperion-C Carrier, and brought it safely to Starbase 11 when the construction yards were abandoned due to Dominion take over of Betazed. While investigating a damaged Betazoid Transport Vessel, the SS Rings, Travers was injured by a Telepathic Trap designed to thwart boarding parties. The device had malfunctioned, however and trapped the crew as well. Though able to rescue his trapped comrades, with the help of his Vulcan friend Sasek and Counselor Lexine, he suffered brain damage. It is still not fully known what effect this injury will have on his Psi rating, once one of the highest in the Federation.
After undergoing treatment for his injury, Travers was placed in Command of the training ship USS Yeager as the wrap up to his Command studies. He then served his Command Internship on the USS Pegasus.
As a result of his actions on the Rings, Travers was promoted to Lt. Commander, and posted as the Exec on the USS Casey, being rushed into service for the war against the Dominion.
He was awarded a commendation for his handling of the rescue of the USS Robisch during the Casey's second mission. These talents were further recognized when Travers was given permanent command of the Casey and a promotion to full Commander in the midst of that ship's mission to Petathan.
