Batman Info

This is about all I know about Batman This is a little old and I got it all off of a web page a few years back so enjoy.

Q. What is Batman's real name?
A. Bruce Wayne

Q. Why did Bruce Wayne become Batman?
A. His parents were brutally gunned down right in front of him by a petty criminal. Partly because of his feeling of helplessness at the time and his desire to prevent it from happening to anyone else, Bruce Wayne trained himself to be an excellent criminal investigator and fighter.

Q. What movie did they see before the crime?
A. This varies from time to time (usually changes when a writer doesn't know Batman's history very well), but it's generally accepted that they were watching a Zorro movie.

Q. Who killed Bruce Wayne's Parents?
A. small time criminal named Joe Chill. Contrary to what the 1989 Batman movie (starring Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson) says, the Joker wasn't the killer. Note: DC has changed history again. Bruce no longer knows who killed his parents.

Q. How can Batman afford all of his toys?
A. Bruce inherited millions of dollars from his parents when they were killed. The money, which was in trust for him until his late teens, was invested wisely and became quite a large sum by the time he became Batman.

Q. How many Bat-men have there been?
A. Not counting all of the people who have impersonated Batman to commit crimes (thus only counting the number of people who have worn the Mantle to protect the innocent) there have been five Bat-men. In order they are: Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Jean-Paul Valley, and Dick Grayson. Thomas Wayne's (Bruce's father) appearance as Batman was purely accidental (he was dressed in a Bat-Man costume for a halloween party when he apprehanded a crook). Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce's butler, has worn the Batman costume on occasion when necessary. Jean-Paul Valley took over for Bruce when Bruce was injured so severly that he couldn't walk (J.P. Valley is also known as Azrael and now has his own DC comic). Dick Grayson, Robin number two, became Batman when Jean-Paul Valley was relieved of the Mantle. Bruce has since reclaimed the Mantle of the Bat for himself.

Q. Wait a minute. If Dick Grayson was Robin #2, who was Robin #1?
A. Glad you asked as this could use some explaining. Sticking with the normal Batman timeline there have been four Robins. Robin #1 was Bruce Wayne. Before Bruce became Batman, he wore the Robin costume as a disquise when he was training. The disquise was handed down to Dick Grayson who became Robin #2. Dick is the Robin that most people know. Dick and Bruce had a falling out and Dick moved away to eventually become Nightwing, leader of the Teen Titans. Sometime later, Bruce met a troubled kid named Jason Todd and the Robin costume was handed down to him. In the now famous phone in poll, the readers of Batman (and related comics) voted to have Jason killed off. Timothy Drake then replaced Jason and is still around today. Moving away from the timeline, in 1986, Frank Miller put out a Batman miniseries called "The Dark Knight Returns." This miniseries takes place several years into the future where Bruce comes out of retirement and takes the aid of another Robin. Her name was Carrie Kelley.

Q. Who is Batman's greatest enemy?
A. That is somewhat debatable. Though The Riddler, The Peguin, and The Catwoman are all great adversaries, they don't come even close to The Joker or Ras Al Ghul. The Joker is a psycopath who has dedicated his existence to making Batman's life difficult. Ras Al Ghul on the other hand is Batman's equal in several respects.

Q. How many Batman comics are there?
A. Currently there are five comics specific to Batman. They are: Detective Comics, Batman, Legends Of The Dark Knight, Shadow Of The Bat, and The Batman Adventures. In addition, Batman makes regular appearances in Robin and Catwoman. Of the seven titles just listed, only Legends Of The Dark Knight and The Batman Adventures are not part of the DC Universe

Q. What other comics has Batman been in?
A. This could be difficult to answer because Batman has guest starred in several comics. I'll just list the comics that Batman has made regular appearances in. hey are: Batman Family, Superfriends, Justice League Of America, Justice League Europe, Justice League, The World's Finest, The Outsiders, Batman & The Outsiders, DC Showcase, and Batgirl. Batman has also had numerous mini-series a few of which are: The Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke, The Cult, Son Of The Demon, and Birth Of The Demon.

Q. What is James Gordon's middle name?
A. Worthington.

Q. What ever happened to Batgirl?
A. Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) is one of the few people who know Batman's real identity. She was shot through the spine by The Joker and is paralyzed from the waist down. She has since changed her role as a crime fighter and is now known as Oracle -- a computer ace who keeps records of all criminal activity and criminals in Gotham. Batman seeks her help when he needs information that he can't get.

Q. What is The Joker's real name?
A. Ouch. That's a tough one. I've searched high and low but can't find a reference to his name anywhere. My last chance is book titled The Untold Beginning Of The Joker. I have the book but it's in storage and it's going to take me a while to get it. I do know that The Joker was married to a woman name Jeannie who was pregnant when she was killed by a once in a million accident. He was also a very untalented (and unemployed) comedian. He was in fact created in a way by Batman. The Joker (before he was The Joker) was involved in a crime where he portrayed Red Hood -- one of Batman's earliest nemeses. Out of fear Red Hood jumped into a chemical vat to escape Batman and thus altered his physical appearance.
Note: Bat-Fan Quimby says that anything the Joker says should be taken with a grain of salt because his twisted mind makes things up which he ends up believing himself. Thus any history on the Joker could be false.

Q. So who was Red Hood?
A. Red Hood as it turns out was played by a bunch of people. There were two small time criminals who masterminded the whole thing. They put different people into the costume as a sort of fall-guy. The cops would always chase and shoot at Red Hood because they thought he was the leader.

Q. What is Killer Croc's real name?
A. Waylon Jones. Speaking of Killer Croc, has anybody other than me noticed that the guy seems to get bigger with every story line he's involved in. He's as big as a small house now. Go back a few years and you'll see what I mean.

Q. What is Two Face's real name?
A. Harvey Dent.

Q. How old are Batman and Robin?
A. Bruce has never come out and said, "I'm 64-years-old today," so we can only guess how old he is (come to think of it, I can't even recall an issue where he celebrates his birthday). The general consensus is this: Bruce Wayne (Batman) is about 32-years-old, Dick Grayson (Nightwing & first Robin) is about 21-years-old, and current Robin, Tim Drake is about 15-years-old.

Q. How old was Bruce when his parents were killed?
A. This is another one of those questions to which we have to guesstimate the answer. Based on a number of clues given throughout his history, Bruce was about 5 to 6-years-old.

Q. Who knows Batman's real identity?
A. This list grows and shrinks daily depending on how DC feels at the time. The list is extensive and I'm sure I'm going to miss a lot characters to which people are going to let me know. (I may also make a few spelling errors here, so bear with me.) This list is:
Alfred Pennyworth (butler)
Harold (the handyman)
Nightwing
the new Robin
Oracle
Superman
Martian Manhunter
Flash
Wonder Woman
Metamorpho
Green Arrow
a few of the Green Lantern
Ras Al Ghul and his daughter Talia
Most of the Justice League members
all of the Outsiders
and I think all of the Teen Titans. (I'll add more to this list as I think of them.)

Q. When was the first...?
A. Appearance of Batman?: Detective Comics #27, May 1939
Appearance of Robin?: Detecive Comics #38, April 1940
Appearance of the Joker?: Batman #1, Spring 1940
Appearance of Clay Face?: Detective Comics #40, June 1940
Appearance of the Batplane and the Batarang?: Detective Comics #31
Appearance of Catwoman?: Batman #1, Spring 1940
Appearance of the Penguin?: Detective Comics #58
Appearance of Alfred?: Batman #16, April-May 1943.

Q. Will Bruce Wayne/Batman ever get married?
A. Not very likely.

Q. Who built the Batmobile?
A. Most people agree that the parts to the Batmobile were custom designed by Bruce and Alfred and then ordered by them through various companies that Bruce owned. Once all the parts were made, Bruce and Alfred assembled the car. In the newer comics, Bruce has a friend/guest named Harold. On the surface he appears to be somewhat slow but in reality he is a super mechanical genius. He has been making all of Batman's gadgets of late.

Q. How many girlfriends has Bruce Wayne had?
A. Beats me. He's had a few relationships with women but I don't think you could call them girlfriends. Bruce Wayne in the comics (unlike in the movies) has always been somewhat aloof when it comes to women.

Q. What is Batman's relationship with Superman?
A. Though they respect each other immensely, they aren't friends (they were before the Crisis thing in the 80's). Batman considers Superman to be a bit of a nerd and I don't think that Superman likes how Batman uses too much physical energy. By the way, in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, Batman pounds the tar out of Superman!

Q. What is Clay Face's real name?
A. The original Clay Face's name is Basil Karlo.
