AOL and FTP

These instructions are for using the convenient FTP client provided by AOL.
It is not difficult if you follow instructions, many of which are self-evident.
It must be emphasized that you cannot upload a complete page with one mouse click.
Image files (pictures and sound) must be uploaded separately;
they will not tag along when you upload the HTML file which refers to them.

1) Goto keyword FTP.
2) Click on the go to FTP icon.
3) Click the `other site' button.
4) Type in ftp.geocities.com (don't touch ENTER).
5) Check box for "Ask for login name & password".
6) Click `connect'.
7) Type in your geoname.
8) Type in your geopassword.
9) Click `continue'. Here you should see the heading "connected to ftp.geocities.com". Click OK.. See your directory at GeoCities.
10) Click the upload icon.
11) Type in file name you want in your geodirectory.
12) Click ASCII for html and text OR Binary for graphics, etc.
13) Click 'continue'.
14) Click 'Select File' icon.
15) In the 'Attach file' box browse to the file you want to upload and click on it. Do not type it in!
16) Click o.k. to enter name into 'upload file' box.
17) Click `send'.
At this point the file transfer box appears with a counter. When the counter reaches 100% AOL announces "File's done." and a box appears with "File Transfer Complete" message and an o.k. to click. Click it. Your file has been uploaded to your geodirectory (You had to give your name and password so the file would go to the right place).

If ftp.geocities.com is very busy you may receive a strange error message and have to try again.
