WYSIWYG?

Maybe so, maybe What You See Is What You Get, but what visitors to your site see may not be the same thing. The HTML instructions on your site tell the visitor's browser what characters to display and (optionally) what typeface to use for them. If the specified typeface is available the browser uses it, but if that typeface has not been installed in that computer then the default typeface is used, the typeface used as a substitute for an unavailable one.

One unsatisfactory solution to the problem is to convert your text into a picture, but the time required to download a picture of a page of text makes that solution unattractive. Making a file of a special font available and expecting people to download it and install it is not realistic. It is possible to upload a set of letters as a gif or jpg alphabet and then compose text with them. Of course the set need not be complete-- as long as it has what letters you text needs, that's enough.
