Close Encounters of the Degenerate Kind

Shane just lay there. He was too tired to move, too enraged to talk to the man standing in front of him. Finally he managed to whisper "Get out."

X-Pac just smiled at him. "And take these nice mystery novels with me? Trust me, I've been there before, you're gonna get bored with no one visiting to play with you."

Shane rolled over to face the wall. "I'm not in the mood for this shit, Sean. Get the hell out. Don't you have a Smackdown taping you're supposed to go to or something?"

Sean's smile was pained as he sat down on the edge of the bed. "Well, to tell you the truth, I'm sorta kinda hiding here. There were some...uhm....fireworks after they found you last night."

"What do you mean?" Shane's voice was wary, but he stayed facing away from his visitor.

"Everyone thinks you're in cahoots with DX now. Well, almost everyone....Edge found you, he thinks you were kidnapped, and me and Dogg...we know what's really up, except he's in denial or something...blocking it out. I had already had a little too much to drink, and I was disgusted he could do this, and I, well, I walked out."

Shane rolled over to face Sean. "You did what???"

"Walked out. Told Hunter I was through with DX. Right in front of a camera." His voice was a mix of pride and regret. "What he did..."

"What exactly do you think he did?" Shane's whole body was cold at the thought of people knowing what had gone on between him and Hunter.

"That little thing at Royal Rumble...you were trying to get him the title. He promised you sex if he won it, and when the plan backfired, he tore you apart."

There was silence in the room for a minute, then Shane said quietly "So what are you, Psychic-Pac? You leaving Hunter...it still sounds like a DX setup to me."

"Fine." Sean stood up. "You don't want to believe me, go ahead. But I don't think you realize how few friends you have left." He got all the way out the door, then turned back. "If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the first person Hunter's manipulated with sex, and I don't think you'll be the last." Then he left, leaving Shane with a pile of bad mystery novels and a lot of things to think about.
