LOST IN SPACE was a hit Science Fiction Television show in the 1960's. Now it's a major motion picture.
I saw the movie on opening night. Great story, great special effects, but some poor science. Oh well. I guess you can;t have everything. It is true to the basic premise of the series and retain much that will be familiar if you ever saw the series. However, it it is definitely NOT just another stale chapter in the recent trend of adapting old T.V. shows to film.
Most of the cast of the old T.V. show have cameos. June Lockhart (Maureeen) is Will's school principal, Mart Kristen and Angela Cartwright (Judy & Penny) play reporters, and "Mark Goddard" (Don West) does an excellent job as the new Maj West's Commanding officer. The voice of the Robot is also done by the original actor (?).

Guy Williams (John Robinson) is dead. Bill Mummy (the original Will) declined a role in the film due to other obligations (officially), but rumor has it he just didn't want to have anything more to do with Lost In Space. Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith) reportedly didn't like anything about the deal the studio offered.
