Kabuki

By David Mack
How on earth do I describe Kabuki?

Well, it's a comic by David Mack. There have been several series and one-shots; in chronological order, they are;

The character has also been in the first Frank Frazetta Fantasy Illustrated, a Strangers in Paradise trading card, Kabuki:Reflections, and some other stuff (if you can enlighten me, please do!).

What's so amazing about this comic? Well, it's a comic about a beautiful woman, but it isn't over-flowing with gratituous T & A shots, and she isn't stereotypically beautiful; in fact, her face was terribly scarred in a life-altering event when she was young. And she's independant, strong, intellectual, individual, and a genius*.

The writing is brilliant, full of beautiful poems, and thought provoking stuff like Buddha, who realised she must be the Buddha because when she talked to him, she realised she was talking to herself...

And the art is incredible! The pencils are wonderful in themselves, but it's the painting that takes your breath away... It's amazing. Not only that, but in his art, David Mack uses an incredible amount of original ideas and mixed media in his art; paint, pixelisation(?), lace, maps, and he incorperates text into the pictures themselves. All I can say every time I open a Kabuki comic is "Wow".

If you want to see some of David's work, and some stuff about himself, not to mention much, much more, check out the official Kabuki page;
