Babylon 5 Book Reviews
UPDATED!
Now Here! Review of Book #9 - To Dream In The City Of Sorrows

Babylon 5-Book #9, To Dream In The City Of Sorrows was written by Kathryn Drennan (otherwise known as Mrs. JMS) and is the first book to be 100% canon. According to JMS, Book #7 was around 90% canon and this one is 100%. Details are given of how Jeffrey Sinclair became the leader of the Rangers, how Marcus Cole joined the Rangers and trained under Sinclair and why, and the fate of Catherine Sakai the fiancee` of Jeffrey Sinclair. To give any more details would be to spoil the book so I'll leave it at that except to say that of all the Babylon 5 novels thus far, this one felt the most like a group of episodes of the show. Buy it and read it. You won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed Babylon 5-Book #7, The Shadow Within by Jeanne Cavelos more than any or the Babylon 5 novels. It was even better the second time. It covers the lives of Anna and John Sheridan, as well as Mr. Morden from shortly before the infamous Icarus voyage to Z'ha'dum until the tragic end of that voyage and the grand opening of the Babylon 5 station.

If you are a fan of Mr. Morden and always wondered at his motivation for serving the Shadows, you'll find it here. If you, like John Sheridan, wonder how his wife could have possibly ended up a Shadow agent, you'll find that here, too. We finally get to see inside these two characters as well as some of the Shadow tech and the internal power struggles of Earth.

If you have been reluctant to purchase any of the novels because of what you might have heard about them or because you were dissatisfied with past novels don't let that stop you this time. This book, according to JMS, is Babylon 5 canon. It covers territory that many viewers wished to see on the television show but couldn't be produced due to one reason or another. The book is well written. The characterizations are quite accurate. It will hold your attention even though all watchers of the show know how it ends. Don't believe the know-it-all critics from the newsgroups. I would definitely say this is the best one yet.

Babylon 5-Book #8, Personal Agendas by Al Sarrantonio review has been deleted for space. If you would like my opinion of it or any other B5 topic, feel free to send me an email.
