JOINING THE RING

Here are the steps that need to be followed to join the Ring 51 WebRing. If any of this is too confusing (beleave me it is) then PLEASE EMAIL werewolfe@hotmail.com

  • Fill out the below form to register your site. Note that this does not insert you in the ring; it simply makes your page known to the WebRing program and gives you a Site ID Number. The actual insertion is done later. After you have filled in the information below and you submit, you will be sent to another page. Copy down all the information and then press back on your browser to come back to this site. THEN, you should follow the rest of the instructions.

    URL:
    Title:
    Email: Send mail? Yes No
    Site Password:
  • You now should have just come back from another page. You better have the info. from that page, otherwise hit forward on your browser.

  • READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES TO THE BOX!!!

  • If you do not want the gifs to be transparent (the gif clashes with your background or whatever), then change the following lines from this:

    img src="/Area51/Vault/6393/prev.gif" border=0>
    IMG SRC="/Area51/Vault/6393/ringmain.jpg" height=62 border=0>
    img src="/Area51/Vault/6393/next.gif" border=0>

    to this:

    img src="/Area51/Vault/6393/prev2.gif" border=0>
    IMG SRC="/Area51/Vault/6393/ringmain.jpg" height=62 border=0>
    img src="/Area51/Vault/6393/next2.gif" border=0>

The changes are: prev.gif to prev2.gif and next.gif to next2.gif

  • In the text box, change the seven (7) references that have _____ to your site ID#. For instance, say your site ID# is 25, then this:

    a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=ring51&id=______

    should look like this:

    a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=ring51&id=25

  • Copy all the text in the box above into your web page at the place you want the webring advertisement to show up

  • E-mail the owner of an existing WebRing site and ask them to add you to the ring. Be sure to include your Site ID Number and your URL. They will will want to look at your page to make sure it is worthy of addition and make sure the WebRing HTML fragment on your page is ok.

  • After checking out your page and hopefully deems it worthy, the existing WebRing site's owner will take your Site ID Number and use it to add you to the ring. They should then e-mail you telling you you've been added.

  • After he/she/they add you, that's it! You should now be able to navigate the entire ring until to make it back to your own page, although it may take a while. An easy way to make sure it is working is to go to the homepage of the person who added you and see if the next button takes you to your own page.

    To add another person

Once you are a member of the Area 51 WebRing, you have the power to add other pages to the ring as well. Here's what you do:
  • Make sure thier site is in the quere

  • Type in their Site ID below and click Test.

Requirements on inserting sites into the ring

    3. The site must not be sloppy (e.g. no broken images)
    4. Just java doesn't make a good homepage (e.g. don't add it)!!
    5. If the site doesn't follow the
