a climax. Xena dreaming of Ares, she "felt something"....
Yet we all know how it ends, with Ares locked away by Xena for thousands
of years until he's burning for revenge.

Essentially, he's a vampire who works for the Toronto police Dept.
and she's the coroner trying to cure his vampirism. Gotta love that angst!
The last episode of Forever Knight was entitled "Last Knight" - however,
I don't know if the show had been officially cancelled when it was written
because the final scene left lots of ways to bring it back. At the end
of the story, Nick was trying to come back across by taking a little blood
from Nat, but he took too much and appeared to have killed her (I
still say there's room here...either for some sort of conventional medicine
or to bring her across and keep looking for a cure for both of them). LaCroix
found them and Nick was begging him to end it all. The final scene was
of LaCroix raising a stake to strike and then we see the blow descend but
we never see it actually hit anything. So it was a classic tragic ending
in that the series was cancelled, but there was tons of room to bring definitely
Nick and I think Nat too, back.

Joxer has loved Gabrielle for an eternity (or so it seems!) His
repeated efforts to woo her rarely get him anywhere (unless Gabby is under
a spell or something equally as strange), however, he never gives up.
He is devoted to her. Gabrielle seems to view Joxer as an annoyance,
but she truly does care for him and finally admitted that she loved him
as a friend alone. "I wish I could...." she said, knowing that he
would make a wonderful life partner. But Gabrielle's heart led her
elsewhere.
And ultimately, it was too late for them.
Twenty-five years of loss and Joxer moved on, only to sacrifice himself
for Gabrielle, the woman he'd always loved. Such a waste, and such
a tragedy. RIP, Joxer the Mighty.

was devestated when Joxer died during one last crusade, and we can only
hope that she had the strength to go on.

This is one of those relationships that should've been, but alas, never
really happened. But the evidence pointing to their compatability is clear.
Both grew up lonely and isolated with no real friends (she was publicly
humiliated after Ranma abandoned her and he's completely directionally-challenged,
making it impossible to find his way home). They're both honorable, devoted,
and willing to defend the one they love, no matter what the cost. They
both have tempers, but are very sweet and affectionate when given the chance.
She provides the balance for some of his weak points. She's very bright,
which makes up for his occasional
denseness. She's also very outgoing and cheerful when he's shy and
depressed.
Most importantly they both desperately want the same thing, meaning
someone to love forever. However, the ones they have their sights
on (Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo) love each other, making Ukyo and Ryoga's
dreams for the future impossible. Hopefully, these two physically strong,
but emotionally fragile people could find comfort and love in each other.

He finally forgives her, but all they can do is chastely kiss. Her unrequited

Beren was a mortal man and Luthien an immortal elf. They fell in love
against the will of her proud father, who deemed mortals unfit to wed with
Elves. Luthien's father said that Beren could marry Luthien only if he
brought a Silmaril from the crown of the evil lord Morgoth. Luthien aided
Beren in his quest, rescuing him from the dungeon of Morgoth's lieutenant,
Sauron. But in the end Beren was killed.
Luthien, however, followed Beren to the uttermost West where Beren's
soul awaited, and there she gave up her immortality in return for Beren's
life. Beren and Luthien lived as mortal man and woman for awhile, and died
together, so that their souls would never be parted...and isn't that the
definition of a soulmate? Yes.

The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey
Vanyel, a confused young man, never had a feeling of belonging until
he went to stay with his Aunt Savil and met Tylendel. Despite the
barriers before them, they fell in love and were happy until Tylendel attempted
difficult magic with tragic consequences.
For years afterward, Vanyel was alone until he met a young bard by
the name of Stefen. It was later revealed that Stefen had Tylendel's
soul, and Vanyel was finally able to overcome his grief and love again.
But Vanyel - along with his Companion Yfandes - sacrificed himself to save
all of Valdemar and his spirit entered the Forest of Sorrows. A lifetime
later, Stefen 'died' in the forest, and the spirits of all three wandered
the forest for centuries, guarding Valdemar, and content in love.
This is the ultimate example of soulmates, "lifebonded" it is called
here, for Vanyel and the spirit that was Tylendel/Stefen were never parted,
not even in death.

Aeris was the beautiful, innocent flower merchant. They met one day,
and it was true love after that. Cloud learned to care for someone
other than himself, and they made the perfect couple! :o)
