Hot Couples!

Welcome to Hot Couples! These are the pairs that are currently the most popular in sci-fi fandom, as shown by either the number of websites/ mailing lists devoted to the couple, the amount of mail the Soulmates website receives, or the general knowledge of the owner (who unfortunately can't be in every fandom at every time, so this is what I noticed).

December 2000

Doggett holding Scully The word is out.  Scully and Doggett have been reported as having "way more chemistry than Mulder and Scully ever had".  Do you believe it?  Is this traitorous to Mulder?  What will happen to one of the all-time greatest relationships, torn apart by actor-network politics?

If you haven't seen The X-Files' 8th season yet, then here's a picture to help:

Other news:  Sam and Jack have been shot down BIG TIME by people concerned that it will ruin the show.  Which is good for Stargate:SG1 as a whole, because it's not about relationships and it's completely inappropriate while Sam is under Jack's command.  As for the future - who knows?

Many Xena fans are deliriously happy with the "Soulmate" kiss between Xena and Gabrielle.  However, we're also campaigning for a 7th season. Xena must go on!

Oh, and your archivist is completely addicted to the Xena/Ares relationship (sigh).

Buffy and Riley are losing fans fast....

Thin Line

August 2000

  1. Jack and Sam - Stargate SG-1 - Woo-Hoo!  Admissions and a kiss!  So it's not official between them but it's about the 'shippiest we'll get until the show ends.
  2. Frank and Olga - 7 Days - As I've said elsewhere on this site, it is their relationship which makes the show sparkle and adds the sense of fun in the "classic" forward-back relationship.  We know the producers are deliberately stringing us along but we don't care 'cause it's fun.
  3. John and Aeryn - Farscape - are you tiring of them yet?
  4. Mulder and Scully - The X-Files - Still and always.  We're hoping that it is his child she's carrying.
  5. Cordy and Wesley - Angel -  (to be updated soon...)
  6. Buffy and Riley OR Buffy and Angel - Buffy/Angel - the ongoing 'shipper debate.
  7. Willow and Tara - Buffy - the couple that inspired huge debates everywhere and certainly got noticed!
(Note: Soulmates really needs that "Buffy" page soon!)

LATEST ADDITIONS:  The True Soulmates page and The Slash Page.

April 2000

A quick update:

Cordelia and Wesley - Angel - are becoming more and more popular.

Latest Additions:  Now and Again, Harm and Meg (JAG), Goliath and Demona (Gargoyles), Qui-Gon&Shmi, Luke&Leia, True Lies, Forever Knight, The Road to El Dorado, Krycek and Marita (The X-Files), Animorphs, Cordy and Wesley (Angel), Final Fantasy 8, and my personal favourite, BUFFY AND SPIKE!

February 2000

Not a lot has changed since the last update, however Mulder and Scully are experiencing a popularity boom thanks to the Kiss!

1) John Crighton and Aeryn Sun - Farscape. With episode rumours flying around and people hanging on to every word from the actors, people can't wait to see where Farscape is going.

2) Buffy/Riley (or Buffy/Angel) - Buffy. There's a war brewing between 'Shippers.  Buffy and Riley seem perfect for each other.  But then there's the Angel factor....

3) Mulder and Scully - The X-Files. They kissed, Shippers around the world cheered, and now we're all hoping that CC finishes up XF in the "right" way.

4) Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn - STAR WARS . Still going strong, as evidenced by the sheer number of stories being written about the Master and the Apprentice.  Literally thousands.  It's amazing.

5) Harm and Mac - JAG.  The Christmas special was great (another alternate kiss) and the UST between them keeps simmering....   (Yes, I know they're not sf but I like them.)

6) Sam Carter and Jack O'Neill - Stargate: SG1. They keep gating, and although it seems he "betrayed" her recently, Sam and Jack are still very much in fans minds.

7) Jason and Gwen - Galaxy Quest.  Wasn't it cool?  And wasn't this couple just perfect?  ;)

8) Seven of Nine and Harry Kim- Star Trek: Voyager. The K/7 phenomena is taking off.  Have fans made a decision on who they want to see Seven with?  I think so.  (Plus we need another couple to rave about given that J&C might as well be dead.  ::grumble::  ::wishing the Holodeck was never invented::

Hot Couples October 1999

1) John Crighton and Aeryn Sun - Farscape. It seems everyone adores these two lately and with good reason, Farscape being one of the most intriguing new shows in a while.

2) Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn - STAR WARS . I have never seen a fandom that has generated over 850 stories about a specific couple in 4 months. The interest in these two is phenomenal. There are more mailing lists than I dare to count about either or both of these very good looking Jedi!

3) Sam Carter and Jack O-Neill - Stargate: SG1. It's been simmering a long time and now Stargate fandom is really taking off.

4) Lochley and Gideon - Crusade. What is the Babylon 5 universe without romance? This couple, the only to arise from the short-lived series (sniff) is very popular.

5) Mulder and Scully - The X-Files. These two are always on 'Shipper's minds, because the UST has been drawn out over six (!) years. We're hoping for a resolution in season 7....

6) Neo and Trinity - The Matrix. This film struck a chord with many people and the relationship also stuck in people's minds.

7) Seven of Nine and ...well...Tuvok/Kim/The Doctor - Star Trek: Voyager. I think peopple want to see Seven in love, they want to see her softer side, so she's being paired with every available male on Voyager!
