Soulmates
The Ultimate Guide to Relationships.

These "perfect pairs" come from a variety of fictional regimes: television from the 70's to computer games of the 90's and beyond!  Unforgettable Pairs has been split into two parts:  Films and More soulmates (below) and  Television Soulmates

Christian and Satine

Moulin Rouge

If you haven't yet seen "Moulin Rouge", go see it now.  I mean it.  Drop everything and be swept away.  This is the best film I've seen since TPM, and for once, the critics agree with me too!  It's pure magic from the moment we see the haunted Christian, tears, tragedy.  The music which surrounds this romance of epic proportions sweeps you away, and it's heartbreaking in the end as both find - and lose - their first and only love.

"A love which will last forever," are Christian's final words as he continues on.  MovieWeb review

Jack Dawson and Rose De Witt Bukater

Titanic
Jack and Rose
Everyone knows the story of Titanic, and now the tale of the tragic soulmates is one that will also be long remembered. Rose, the wealthy yet unhappy young lady met poor Jack, someone who would change her life forever. He inspired her dreams, she ignited his spirit, and together, they could achieve anything.
Until that fateful night; and the end of Jack's life as he simply slipped away. Rose carried him in her heart...forever.  So what makes them classified as soulmates?  Quite simply, that final scene in the film where they can be together for all time.

Danielle and Prince Henry

Ever After
Ever After
The Cinderella story is timeless, beautiful, and evocative of true soulmates.  This is played out to perfection in Ever After - the poor servant girl who meets the priince and sparks fly!  What makes this romance even more endearing is they took the time to get to know one another, all the while Danielle believing it could never be.  After many (outrageous) trials involving capture by gypsies, a misfortune-filled ball and the evils of the stepmother, love conquered all and the pair were married.  Truly, they lived happily Ever After.

Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley

Monkey Island
Elaine and Brushie
"Monkey Island" is one of those rare, under-appreciated things that everyone seems to miss. (Okay, so it was a computer game, but still! The romance! The tragedy! The desperate trials to save the one he loved!) Plunder Bunnies!
Shameless plug warning!
LeChuck : The Deep Darkness. Read all about Guybrush and Elaine when they meet Mulder and Scully in this fanfic extravaganza!

Sandy and Danny

Grease

Grease will always be remembered for the music, but it is also an incredibly romantic tale.  Not only is there the typical girl-longing-for-boy; we also hear some very sweet ballads from a lonely Danny.  The pair who spent one magic summer together before enduring hardships (albeit childish) which threatened their relationship before they were finally reunited.  Flying off into the sunset only heightens the magical quality of this tale as Sandy and Danny went to their 'happily ever after'.  True soulmates.

Harry and Helen Tasker

True Lies
Harry and Helen
Let's all take a moment here- True Lies managed to portray a romantic and hot relationship between a husband and a wife!  Now that is something different.  Harry and Helen are therefore well deserving of their place on this page.  He was absolutely devestated when he thought she was cheating on him (and this one scene inspired my fanfic!), and she loved her husband regardless of the times he kept letting her down.  In the end, they shared all their secretes and remained happily married.

Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
It was love at first sight. The young couple only had only one night together, but each meeting was so intense, so full of passion. Each believed they could not live without the other, and their tale of woe ended in tragedy when the star-crossed lovers took their own lives. In a sense, they became eternal soulmates.

Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler

Gone With the Wind

Almost everyone knows the story of Scarlett and Rhett.

"Oh, Rhett, Rhett!  Whatever shall I do??"
Was there ever another couple like them??  The embodiment of southern charm and the king of the Scoundrels!  sigh
Scarlett would never love anyone but Ashley, or so she thought.  Rhett charmed his way into her life, married her, gave her a child, and only at the end when it was too late, did Scarlett realise that he'd charmed his way into her heart as well.

Queen Elizabeth the First of England and Lord Robert

Elizabeth (the film)
Elizabeth
They were so passionate about eachother, it is a shame their relationship ended so tragically.
This is one of the best examples on film of how absolute power can corrupt even pure things such as love.
They start out as friends, then lovers and later betray each other, but anyone can tell that they still love one another though they have become icy and frigid. After all, she saved his life to punish and remind herself.

William Shakespeare and Viola de Lesseps

Shakespeare in Love

So, the story is Shakespeare is trying to write a play which will ultimately become Romeo and Juliet, and among the actors is a mysterious boy called Thomas Kent.  He, or rather she, turns out to be the Lady Viola, a girl from a rich family who wants to be an actor.  They fall madly in love with each other, but unfortuneatly she's bethrothed to Lord Wessex...

Johnny Castle & Baby (Francis) Houseman

Dirty Dancing
Baby and Johnny
Whilst on summer vacation, Baby is brought together with dancer Johnny after helping out another member of staff.
As well as becoming his dance partner, Baby teaches Johnny about "standing up to other people, no matter what it cost them." and about the kind of guy he wants to be.
Johnny, in turn teaches Baby about the harsh reality of life. Together they make the perfect couple. Classic case of Opposites
attract!

ThinLine

 Oscar Hopkins and Lucinda Leplastia

Oscar and Lucinda
Oscar and Lucinda - from the film.
Unrequited love on both sides. In both the novel and the film we meet two people who love each other genuinely.  Partly because they feel no one else will love them, partly because they are so close they can not be apart. They had quite a mad world and we were all saddened when it crashed to an end in either version.

ThinLine

 Margot and La Môle

La Reine Margot (Queen Margot)
Margo and La Môle
Classic historical literature tells the tale of how the spoiled and abused princess of France finds herself and true love in a time of turbulence, decadence and danger. She starts out rotten and despicable but ends up a superb feminine figure, and he
must be one of the most romantic male figures ever - both lover and fighter.

ThinLine

Veronica Franco and Marco Venier

 Dangerous Beauty
Veronica and Marco
Don't you just love it when the couple can not get together at all in the beginning and then slowly and painfully manage to get to it with more problems than you like to think of?  In this true story Veronica becomes a courtesan as she can not marry her true love Marco, because of some status differences (glad to leave the 17th century, anyone?).  He then marries someone else and she sleeps with all of Venice. But it has class and lush romance. Who can say no?

ThinLine

 Bertram Cates and Rachel Brown

Inherit the Wind

Most likely no one remembers them anymore, but anyone who has seen Inherit the Wind, a play/movie based on the Scopes Trial,  will agree, thiers was a beautiful love.  It was dangerous, she was the daughter of the Reverend, and he was teaching Darwin, a mortal sin the eyes of the townspeople-and against the law.  He opened her eyes, and when the case was appealled, and they rode off into the sunset together.
In the play, they only loved each other.  In the movie, they were actually involved.  Either, they are true soulmates.

ThinLine

Sam and Molly

Ghost
Sam and Molly
Sam and Molly, the perfect modern couple, had everything until he was brutally murdered one night. Sam loved her so much that he couldn't leave this world until he knew she was safe.  With the help of a once-fraud medium (resulting in hilarious consequences!) he was able to touch his love one last time, before moving on to the next realm in a tragic finish.

ThinLine

Truman Burbank and Sylvia, aka "Lauren Garland"

The Truman Show
Truman and Sylvia
This couple really exemplifies the soulmate principle.  Truman was born in captivity, with his life planned out for him in the smallest detail, right down to the woman he would marry. But when he fell in love with Sylvia, nothing that his captors did could end that love or break the bond between him and his soulmate. They took her from him, leaving him with nothing but her sweater and a picture cobbled from magazine scraps. But his love (and hers) persevered, and at the end of the film he escapes his prison, and Sylvia is waiting for him, in a touching triumph of true love between true soulmates.
