A freshly removed implant

Do you have one of these inside???

10/12/96- The patient, Mr.-------, is an employee at the local gravel quarry. He complained of headaches, neck pain, dizziness, and a ringing in his ears. An external physical exam showed nothing, so I took an x-ray, to be developed later, and sent him home with some medication.

10/13/96- You can imagine my shock when the x-ray of Mr.------- revealed a strange, seemingly metallic object lodged in his neck! Elongated in shape, it seemed to have wires that directly entered the spinal column. I immediately called Mr.------- and set up an appointment for the following day. I drove home, baffled, and immediately sent off letters to several colleagues, detailing the man's history, hoping to shed some light on the situation. I woke up early and drove to the clinic, hoping to shed some light on the bizarre situation.

10/13/96- Before the surgery started, I questioned Mr.------- in detail, even probing his personal life. He admitted that he was having some problems at work. The quarry had recently come under new management, and the boss, a cruel and callous man, had ordered the enlargement of the excavation, past the point of profitability. Questions were "discouraged." New employees were being brought in from different parts of the country, and some from overseas. These new employees always hung out in the boss' office. Orders for new equipment had tripled, he claimed, and the equipment was more suitable for construction work than excavation. The patient claimed he had tried to adjust, but he said that he had lately had trouble sleeping. He repeatedly had nightmares of strange men in his trailer, standing by his bed. It was then that the headaches and other symptoms started. Sometimes during spells of dizziness, his mind would go blank, and his limbs would twitch, almost purposefully. He had tried not to think about it, hoping it would just go away. I had heard enough, and we prepped the patient for surgery. After he was anesthetized and prepped, I opened up his neck with a cut, guided by the x-ray. Soon I had exposed the device, nestled in the wet tissue, by the spine. The wires connected diabolically to the vertebrae. Suddenly, the patient began thrashing madly! It should not have been possible for him to move under such heavy sedation! Terrified that he would hurt himself, the nurses and myself held him down until he had stopped moving. I increased the dose of anesthetic. Working carefully, I detached the wires, and cut away the device, and dropped it into the pan. I was covered with sweat, but it was finally over. I took the device out of the pan and examined it, then had my assistant photograph it. I was horribly baffled, and locked the device in a cabinet in my office for safekeeping. The patient awakened, and we kept him overnight for observation.

10/14/96- Since Mr.------- was recovering uneventfully from the fairly superficial operation, I released him and went home to think more about this case. I pored through my medical books, but found no similar cases. I went to bed, but sleep did not come easily.

10/15/96- Today was my day off, so I continued fruitless research on his condition. Towards evening, the doorbell rang, and I went to the door and signed for the registered delivery of a small, brown envelope. I recognized the address as that of one of my colleagues. Ripping it open, I found nothing but a small white card. Hastily scribbled on the front was the name "Photographer X" and below that, a URL. I quickly looked up the site, and was horrified by what I found! A massive, secret conspiracy against the people of the earth…a coming invasion…control of our leaders by outside forces…Trembling, I rushed out of the house, and into the coming darkness, and jumped in my car and drove to the trailer park where Mr.------- lived. As I approached his trailer, a sixth sense warned me of impending danger. As I drove by the trailer slowly, I saw a huge, black DeSoto parked in the lot, a dark shape behind the wheel. As I passed, the DeSoto lit up its brights, almost blinding me, and then cut them off when I had passed. I decided to go to the clinic instead, and collect the sinister device I had removed from the patient's neck. As I approached the medical park, I heard the wail of sirens in the distance. Accelerating, I turned the corner only to see a scene of pure chaos, of the entire park in flames, with firemen and trucks everywhere! Knowing without a doubt that I was indirectly responsible for the fire, I sped home. Packing quickly, I checked all my savings out in cash, in one hundred-dollar bills. I quickly armed myself, and headed out on the open road.

2/18/97- I have linked up with a small network of doctors who are, shall I say, "in the know." None of us have a home, we travel, staying in hotels and campgrounds, performing on-the-spot removals of strange devices from people's bodies…It is a hard life, a lonely life, but I am doing it for the sake of humanity…

3/2/97- Today I removed a device from the neck of a former ambassador to France. His family had been concerned over his incoherent ramblings, blackouts, seizures and spells of violent rage.

4/11/97- I had two persons referred to me by my contacts, both of them employees in a post office in a large city. One had a single device in his neck, and the other had multiple objects scattered throughout his body. I disposed of the devices in the usual way.

7/20/97- The subject has been complaining of seizures and blackouts ever since he took a position in a small local aerospace engineering firm. The x-ray came out positive, with devices in his neck, nose, and under his ribcage. I expect no complications in the removal.

6/29/98- My latest patient is a petroleum engineer from the west…and I am becoming more and more disturbed by what I am discovering. The devices are growing more and more complex, and more attached to the organ systems. What is worse, I think the true rulers of this planet are aware of my attempts to thwart their vile schemes…I am positive that the device in this patient contains some kind of bomb or weapon. Before I attempt surgery, in this cheap motel room, I am forwarding parts of my journal to Photographer X. Should anything happen to me, my story shall live on. I can only hope my skill is enough to safely remove this implant…
