Wicca

The Goddess is Alive and Magick is Afoot!

What is Wicca?

Wicca, sometimes called Wicce, The Craft, or The Old Religion by its followers, is an ancient religion of love for life and nature. Wicca worships and celebrates the feminine aspect of The Divine…the Goddess. Sometimes She is referred to as The Great Mother and sometimes as the Triple Goddess of the Moon (Maiden, Mother and Crone). For thousands of years, cultures all over the world have worshipped the Goddess in her many aspects. Some Wiccan traditions also honor the male deities. Wiccans see the divine Spirit as being present in all creatures and things: the sky, the sun, the moon, women and men, plants, animals, the Earth and everything around us, therefore, we should live in harmony with the Earth and with Nature, and not exploit them.

Wicca has one main rule or law: An it harm none, do as thou wilt. Simply put, this means do what you will, as long as it harms no one, not even yourself. Wiccans do not believe that the Goddesses and Gods sit in judgment of us and as such should be feared; rather we believe in karma--that whatever energy you send out returns threefold, so it is wise to be kind to others.

...and what does Wicca mean to me?

I was introduced to Wicca by a friend almost seven years ago, and what caught my interest the most was Wicca's honoring of nature, the earth, the seasons and all living things. Another aspect of Wicca that is very important to me is the honoring of the Divine in a feminine aspect. Being female, I never could quite connect with a male God out of whose image I was created. Whereas, I can relate to the Goddess living within me and within everything.

Now, I'm not trying to say that Wicca is the "only true" spiritual path or the path for everyone. I'm not saying that at all. I respect that everyone has different beliefs and follows different paths. I do believe, however, that all spiritual paths are just different roads to the same place and no one path is better than any other. A spiritual path is an individual's choice and should be respected and accepted, whether or not you agree with the particular beliefs or traditions.
