Putty

Episode 3

Seeing a pulsating brown blob on the floor is strange. Hearing it talk is unsettling. Finding out that it's your significant other is one hell of a shock. All this happened to Dr. Kate Hawkins late on a Thursday night. Her boyfriend, cybernetics scientist Storm Morgan, was lying on the floor. Or so she thought. She grabbed a Bioscanner off of a counter nearby and ran a few genetics tests on the blob. The DNA matched up.

"Storm" spoke. "Kate...Give me Formula 33-BXE." Kate went over the different formulas in her mind and remembered that 33-BXE was a molecular hardener, designed for military use as a detainment aid. It could, in a matter of seconds, freeze a person's hand in place for an hour.

"I'll get it," Kate replied. She walked across the Biogenetics lab to the rack of serums, grabbed the right vial, and loaded it into a syringe. She walked back to "Storm." "Here," she said as she injected the the chemical into the blob. Amazingly enough, immediately after Kate pulled out the syringe, the blob extended upwards and morphed into a humanoid shape. The shape of Storm! Kate was dumbfounded. "Okay Storm. Now, you're going to tell me just what in the name of Boba Fett is going on here!"

"Okay, okay," Storm said, attempting to calm her down. "I was abducted by aliens who blasted me with something. It knocked me out, and when I came to, I was here. I discovered over the course of the night that I could morph into any shape. However, every time that I used my powers, I lost a bit of molecular coherency. After I used it enough, I simply turned into this blob, at which point I lost all mobility. If I can inject myself with 33-BXE before I use the powers enough, I can keep myself fully together. And, to quote The Mask, 'With these powers I could be,'" he said as he tranformed his hands into large clusters of guns, "'a SUPERHERO!!!!'"

Kate was astonished. "You're joking, right? You are a respected man with a respectable job. Leave the superheroing to Shockman, Mr. Freedom, and even that vigilante Deadbeat."

"Relax, Kate. I'm still going to keep the job here at the lab. I'll do my 'superheroing' at night, after I finish research. On nights when I can't get out of here until late, I'll leave it to those guys. In the meantime, I'm going to go mix up a couple of cases worth of 33-BXE." Storm left.

Somewhere, not far away from the labs, in a dark room, a man was sitting on a chair, smoking a cigarette. "Pryce!" he yelled. "Pryce!!" he yelled louder. "PRYCE!!!" he yelled for the last time. A short, thin man, wearing a black suit and an X-Men tie, ran into the room.

"Yes, sir?" he asked meekly.

The man in the chair spoke again. "I have a mission for you." He handed Pryce a card. Pryce pulled a small computer of some sort out of his breast pocket and slid the card into it.

"I see," he said. He turned and walked out of the room, cool as a cucumber.
