In 1984, Supergirl comes to Hollywood in a Tri-Star motion picture starring Helen Slater as Linda Lee and Supergirl. Along with familiar chracters like Zara's mother, Alura (Mia Farrow), father, Zor-El (Simon Ward), and Lucy Lane (Maureen Teefy), there are the usual new Hollywood characters: the witch, Selena (Faye Dunaway), her assistant (Brenda Vaccaro), Zaltar, an Argo City scientist (Peter O'Toole) and a love interest, Ethan (Hart Bochner). In the movie, Kara comes to Earth seeking a missing Argo City power source. She assumes the identity of Linda Lee and enrolls in Midvale School for girls. Although presented by the Superman movie producer Alexander Salkind, Christopher Reeve does not appear (except in a poster), but Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen does. There are no Danvers to adopt her, and Linda refers to herself as a 17-year-old orphan. She tells the school headmaster she is Clark Kent's cousin.
