Here is a map of Belo Horizonte

.Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. This year Belô or BH, as it´s known in Brazil, will celebrate its 100th anniversary. What a party cityhall has planned! Belo Horizonte is surrounded by the beautiful Serra do Curral mountain range. The air is pure and refreshing. The average yearly temperature is 75 F. The sunrise in the East and the sunsets in the West are often spectacular, hence the name, beautiful horizon.

The city is Brazil´s third largest. The state is the second largest GDP producer. While there are many social problems, this city of almost three million is the best place to live in all of Latin and South America! (Rand-Mcnally, 1994) The city was planned by its forefathers to accomodate up to 100,000 inhabitants. Many of the folks who cannot afford the glitzier "centro", have been pushed up into the mountains overlooking the city and into the poorer outer suburbs in classic third world style. There are plenty diversions including some of the best food and drink in South America. Many beautiful, lush, and tropical parks offer families much needed breathing room and exercise. Lake Pampulha and Praça da Liberdade are popular tourist destinations.
