A brief history of the family........
Not a whole lot is known about the first generation of the family that I have listed on my webpage.However,here is the "run-down" starting with the second generation.
JOSEPH DEREMO and REBECCA RIGGS were married in Derby, Conn. and moved to Jefferson County NY where most of their children were born.
About a year after Orsemas was born, the family moved to Dekalb, St Lawrence County N.Y. They remained in that area until the children had reached adulthood.(I have a copy of the 1850 census which list all of the families there).
Most of the girls married and stayed in N.Y. However, at least one of the sons, GEORGE RIGGS DEREMO, was a "loyalist" and moved toToronto, Ontario, Canada where his family grew.
Brothers EARL F. DEREMO and JOSEPH LOUIS. DEREMO married and moved to Van Buren and Ottawa counties, Michigan.Then JOSEPH moved to Dent County, Missouri. JOSEPH married four times.
Brother THOMAS moved to Rock County,Wisconsin and then on to Sac County, Iowa .THOMAS married twice.
Brother JOHN CARLOS DEREMO moved to Allamakee County, Iowa.Then later t Adair County IA
ORSEMAS, the youngest, went to Toronto, Canada for a while to learn medicine from his brother Dr. GEORGE RIGGS DEREMO.
ORSEMAS then moved to Elon/Lansing. Allamakee County Iowa. And became a prominent Dr, and gentleman farmer. He and his wife Catherine are buried in Allamakee County.
