Our story, told to me by family members as I grew up, was of an Irish member of the Lewis and Clark expedition who, while escorting the Cherokee tribe to Oklahoma, fell in love with a Cherokee Indian princess and wed her... to have a family that ultimately led to me. My maternal great-grandmother was full-blood Cherokee, or so I have heard it told, as I do not remember her. But her spirit lives in me, wild and free, calling to me fiercely to honor her.
I learned, somewhat to my disappointment, that there were no "Cherokee Princesses", but the women were very important members of the tribe.
And so my journey begins

[Odin's Castle_of_Dreams_and_Legends] Has the most comprehensive list of Native American tribes I have found anywhere in my search of the WWW to date! The pages are lovely and the history of the various tribes from the beginning to the present was fascinating ! There is also a section devoted to Canadian tribes as well.
But the page isn't only about Native Americans... if you are a history buff, you will find a plethora of information here to keep you enthralled for hours ! Happy surfing!

While it isn't really a Cherokee thing, I was struck by the name of one of the "heirloom varieties" mentioned at [The_Abundant_Life_Seed_Foundation]. The "Cherokee Trail of Tears bean, tucked into the clothing and hair and belt of the Cherokee Indians as they were marched and forced onto the reservation." They seem to be a worthy foundation for anyone concerned with continuing the agriculture tradition, and helping to feed those who wish to grow their own food and care for Mother Earth.
