Genealogical Society of South Africa

Computer Interest Group

[Hierdie blad in Afrikaans]

The Genealogical Society of South Africa was started in the 1960s to encourage the study of genealogy and family history. The Computer Interest Group was formed in 1989, and initially helped beginners in the use of computers for genealogy..

The main means of communication for members of the Computer Interest Group is the GENEALOGY.EUR conference on the Fidonet BBS network. This Web page is a new venture, opened on 7 August 1996, so there's not much here yet. Watch this space, there will soon be more. If you would like to see a complete list of current pages at this site, go to our main index page.

But in the mean time there are some links below to sites that have some very useful information on genealogical computing. You can contact us by phoning one of the following bulletin boards and looking for the International Genealogy Conference (GENEALOGY.EUR):

Pretoria: Unisa Editorial BBS - Tel (012) 429-8641

Johannesburg: Goldfields BBS - Tel (011) 393-3624

The BBS conference provides a forum for discussion of genealogical questions. For more information about using BBSs for genealogical discussions, see our BBS Web page.
