Parent Club Events
- Fall Festival - A day of fun and games for all students and teachers. Volunteers are needed to plan what activities will be done.
List of some activities that have been done in the past at ES:
- Farm relay race,
- Barn dance,
- Guess weight of a pumpkin,
- Conservation Dept.,
- and refreshments
- Book Fair - A 3 day book sale where parents are needed to help students with their purchases.
Fall - Students will be able to choose from a wide variety of books by Scholastic.
Spring - All books are 1/2 price.
- Pictures - Fall pictures will be in the yearbook.
Spring pictures are more informal and relaxed.
Parents are needed to bring classes to the area where pictures are taken, help make sure their hair is combed, and straighten collars.
- Fall Fund Raiser - We will be selling a variety of items from Best Line Company. Profits from our sales will be used for student activities, field trips, etc. Parents will be needed to help on the date of delivery of our products.
- Spring Fund Raiser - We will be selling candy bars from World1s Finest Chocolates. Profits will again be used for student activities and help with next year1s Parent Club budget. Parents will be needed to sort products to be handed out.
- Jingle Bell Shop - Students will be able to choose from a large variety of
products to purchase for Christmas gifts. Gifts range from
10 cents to $10. Parents are needed to assist students selecting gifts.
- Yearbook - A book filled with memories of the school year. Parents are needed to help in putting the yearbook together (doing the layout).
- Student of the Month - Every month students are chosen to represent their class as Student of the Month (mainly based on behavior). Parents take the
children's pictures and get the pictures ready to be displayed at school. Students recieve a bumper sticker and a reward for their efforts.
- Computer Studies - Accelerated Reader - Children in all grades learn valuable computer experience with the help of teachers and volunteers
who hold weekly computer classes.
The Accelerated Reader program serves as a valuable tool that enables the teachers to evaluate the reading comprehension of the students. The program encourages the students to continue and increase their reading with incentives and rewards given for achieving reading goals. Accelerated Reader is a special part of our computer program.
- Library Helper - Parents are needed to assist our school librarian in the repair of any of the school1s books.
- Fine Arts Day - Lewis & Clark - This is a day devoted to fine arts. All four areas of art are represented in this all day activity. Everything from watercolors, learning about a violin, square dancing, to storytelling. It gives students an opportunity to learn about fine arts. Parents are needed to plan the activities for the day, and to work the day of the event.
- Art Festival - Eunice Smith - This is an all day outside activity that brings local artists to our school. Everything from cookie decorating, stained glass, watercolor, and a blacksmith make up our day1s activities. Parents are needed to plan the day1s activities and work on the day of the festival.
- Decorating - Both schools will be decorated for any season
or upcoming event that will take place. Parents could assist the building decorator to make our buildings look extra special.
- Newsletter - A monthly newsletter will be sent home to each family after our monthly Parent Club meeting. It will inform parents about dates and special activities that will take place at each school. Parents could assist in the copying and distribution of the newsletter.
- Young Authors - Students write their own stories. Books are chosen to represent each building and go to District Young Authors Conference at Alton High. Books are also chosen for county and state competition.
- Room Mother - This person will help coordinate two classroom parties throughout the year (Christmas & Valentine). They may also be called upon by the teacher to help with special activities by making phone calls to class parents.
- Party Coordinator - This person will assist any classroom that does not have a head room parent, and may call on other parents to help with refreshments and treats.
- Mini Art Museum - Mini art musuem provides students with opportunities to study famous artists and provide hands-on experience with the techniques used by that artist. A collection of the students1 work is presented annually at an art show at Alton Square. The Mini Museum programs are led entirely by volunteers. We receive funding from special grants as well as the local Parent1s Club. The children1s enthusiasm provides the program volunteers with satisfaction in knowing their time is well spent. Volunteers are needed to present these classes bi-monthly.
- Field Trips - All classes go on field trips. Some are curriculum oriented, and all are fun. Most are all-day activities.

- Science Center,
- Grant1s Farm,
- trip to Springfield,
- baseball game,
- Magic House
- Aspiring Artists - Students draw or paint a picture to be submitted for judging. A panel of judges will choose 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each grade level. Ribbons are awarded and each 1st place winning picture is matted, framed, and hung at the school.
- Web page - We now have a web page on the internet. The site contains parent club information, local information and links, and educational links.
- Labels and Box tops - We will again be saving cereal box tops and labels in the Campbell soup label program to help raise money for PE equipment. Any parent could assist in preparing labels for shipping.
- Target for the School - When you sign up for a Target credit card be sure to designate our schools as your school of choice. (If you already have a Target Card you may call 1-800-316-6142 to designate your chosen school.) Target will automatically donate 1% of all Target Guest Card purchases to the designated school.
- Family Fun Night - This year we will be having a Family Fun Night at the end of the school year, held at Lewis and Clark - for both schools. Please join us for a fun celebration.
