DRAGONS OF AUTUMN TWILIGHT T
DRAGONS OF WINTER NIGHT
DRAGONS OF SPRING DAWNING
AUTHOR: MARGARET WEIS AND TRACY HICKMAN " Dragons. Creatures of legend. Stories told to children. But now the dragons have returned to Krynn. The darkness of war and destruction engulfs the land." So begins the story in which nine companions led by a despised half-breed try to stop the Dark Queen from returning to Krynn. Chronicles, a trilogy , by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, spins a tale of epic fantasy that surpasses even Tolkien.
A realistic and detailed setting, complex storyline, and exciting plot all give these stories a rich depth. However, although these are good enough reasons to read this book, the characters and their relationships set this saga apart. The plot seems to go by the wayside as you watch the characters develop and interact. Tanis, the half-elven leader, is ridiculed because of his ancestry, but is intelligent and brave. Tasselhoff, a member of the Kender race, is immune to fear and is always smiling and happy. Flint is a 150 year old dwarf who feels as if he is responsible for the companions and is the grandfather type. Goldmoon is the first true cleric since the cataclysm. She seeks to bring faith back into the land. Riverwind, Goldmoon's husband, is a skilled ranger and plainsman, who originally brought faith to Goldmoon. Caramon is Raistlan's twin brother. He is strong and good- hearted, but not too bright. Raistlan, the second twin, is frail, cynical and mysterious. He gains great power, but at the price of his soul. Sturm Brightblade, a member of the ancient Solamnic Knights. He seeks to regain his family's honor and prove himself a true knight.
The companions must travel over the entire world of Krynn, fighting the highlords and their abyssal servants. They search for the strange immortal Berem, dragonorbs, and the legendary dragonlance. They must separate and reunite, unite the races of good, and defeat Takhisis in the corrupted temple of Nekera. I've read and reread these books what seems like hundreds of times. Each character seems to be a close friend. Tas helped me discover an interest in reading, which I've enjoyed enormously. My favorite, however, is Raistlan. I feel that everyone can relate to him. Wouldn't it be wonderful, just once, to get back at all those who've put you down or said you couldn't do it? Raistlan's story is continued in Legends, the sequel to Chronicles. No matter what your reading level or interest, you'll love these books. Magic, adventure, drama, combat, poetry, and above all, dragons, make these books great reading. All these factors set this book apart from others of its genre.
