Netscape

http://home.mcom.com/home/welcome.html
This is the most complete set of Internet resourcesaccessible from one site anywhere on the Web, making it a greatdefault home page, and the warren of pointers to browsers,Gophers, virtual maps, catalogues and directories will probablyhave you lost underground for hours. Tutorials range from gettingstarted through to designing your own pages. The formerlywonderful 'what's new' has moved to Yahoo but the 'what's cool'is still great.

UK Java Game Gallery

http://www.focusmm.co.uk/java/index.html
[pcx - java.pcx] Classic arcade games such as Tetris, SpaceInvaders and PacMan are all available as Java applets from thisWeb site. The games are unsophisticated, but addictive but thebiggest problem with the site is the length of time it takes todownload the games - no less than five minutes for Pacman! Canyou wait that long?

The Java Centre

http://www.java.co.uk
A flashing neon sign announces the Java Centre, allegedlyñdestined to become the premiere Java resource in the UK.îCould be true. There's enough applets here to keep you up wellpast bedtime, and comprehensive listings of UK Java developers,as well as seminars, tutorials, and exhibitions. A cute spinninglogo and auto-scrolling mini-menu point you to every Java-link incyberspace, including online games like Solitaire and Mr PotatoHead, build your own railroad track, stab a cartoon in the neckand watch it bleed, mix your own six-track audio demo, lust aftera bouncy nude, or celebrity painting by choosing from a galaxy ofstars and brushing on Madonna's eyes, Clinton's chin, Bill Gates'hair, etc. Or relax with a collection of Java jokes... what'sbrown and sticky? A stick. Do I smell Reeves and Mortimer?

Texture Land

http://www.meat.com/textures/
This an extremely popular and much-mirrored site, housing, asit does, a collection of 298 textured backgrounds for use in yourWeb pages, 3D modelling or VRML. Three separate sectionsconcentrate on normal textures (simple bubbly-surfacedabstracts), abnormal textures (warped spacey landscapes) and odds'n ends (close-ups from a class biology lesson). Personal usersget to download them for free but commercial sites should pay amodest fee. Lastly, to see that it's legible and to check theoverall effect ,you can also link to a whizzy little Windowsutility called the Color Manipulation Device. Just like that!

Quick VR Productions

http://www.quickvr.com/

If you'veever fancied a dabble or just want to see what all the fuss isabout, this is the place to visit. You don't need any sillygoggles or gloves and you can see excellent examples of what canbe done. There's also a decent collection of relevant shareware. And you can download the QuickTime player if you don't alreadyhave it.

Pollanen Family'sCyberland

http://pollanens-cyberland.com/
Quite what this site is up to I'm not sure but it's tacky ina cute kind of a way. Essentially it's home to lots of links toother equally quirky sites. You can search through the databaseof sites or scroll through the section headings. You get adifferent background every time you load up the site and yoursurf can be accompanied by some rather lovely ambient music -imagine, if you will, Smoke on the water played on a stylophone! All that and some really bad spelling - here instead of here forexample makes for a pleasantly tacky site.

Netscape NavigatorPlug-Ins

http://home.netscape.com/comprod/products/navigator/version_2.0/plugins/index.html
Netscape's hosting more plug-ins than you've had hot chipsand this site serves them up from an easy-to-access menu. Nevermind the fancy-schmancy... just click and ride! Among thefree/shareware and demo goodies for every kind of machine are: aplug-in developer's kit, beta downloadables galore from jolly oldstandbys like Adobe's Acrobat Reader and the Real Audio player,to more complex programs like Open2U, which will embed MPEGmovies with synch sound. Links to presentation packs, multi-mediaplayers, vector graphic and VR viewers (thrill to the animatedbirdie, play the virtual piano, make the 'copter fly), globaltime clocks, business software to view Excel graphs online, allkindsa stuff.

http://www.microsoft.com/sitebuilder
If you're building a Web site you simply have to visit thissite! It's big Bill Gates at his most generous - dishing outloads of free booty in exchange for you simply filling out a formand including the Internet Explorer logo on your site. On thesite you'll find the release version of Microsoft's Front Pageauthoring software, a beta copy of Visual J++ and loads morebesides. It may all be part of Bill's masterplan to make InternetExplorer the world's most prominent browser, but hey you can'tcomplain too much all the stuff on there is free.

For those of you confused by the complexities of colouringyour Netscape-enhanced Web pages, Get Hexed! provides a very neatsolution that stops you from getting it wrong. Simply select thered, green and blue values you think you want for your backgroundcolour, text and highlighted links and Get Hexed! does the rest.It shows you how it's going to look (so you can make sure it'slegible and the colours don't clash).
