Don't despair at the domination of American sports on the
Internet, frolic here and know that there'll always be an
England. Someone's got to be bottom of the international cricket
ladder.

Compiled by Andy Stubbs, the Wimbledon Web site adopts the
'there's nobody like us, but we don't care' attitude. A larger
than life Womble greets you upon arrival. Unfortunately, he's
been there for a while and the site won't be updated until
October so you have to relive The Crazy Gang's 1995/96 season all
over again, or visit John's Wimbledon page at
www.soi.city.ac.uk/homes/ec564/dons.top.html for a simplified
series of pages.

This new and regularly updated West Ham site is one of the
only sites in the Premiership to give you an option to download
the entire site if your modem is too slow to view it online.
There's a host of information including a tribute to the late
Bobby Moore and sound clips from his recollections of that final.

With enough football trivia to keep even Stato happy, the
Spurs site provides information overload on the happenings at
White Hart Lane. A collection of sound clips give particular
emphasis to the Nayim goal against Arsenal, which by all accounts
was a stunned silence. Anyone who has spent the summer in
solitary confinement might also like to catch up with Teddy
Sheringham on his Euro site at www.i-way.co.uk/ euroted/.

Someone once described Golf as 'a good walk ruined'. If you
disagree and want to visit one of the most beautiful golf courses
in the country, go take a peek at The Warwickshire sited at Leek
Wootton, near Warwick. The site is simply designed, with details
on how to get to the course, the facilities therein, upcoming
events and local accommodation. This is little more than a
promotional brochure on the Web.

Apparently many of the details surrounding the death of
Ayrton Senna are still unexplained and two years have gone by
without an official verdict on his death. This is great
conspiracy stuff and according to the site many of the people
involved are reported to be in 'fear of their lives'. No real
answers here but a plea to people to email in their theories.

The famous french essayist and semiotician Roland Barthes
once wrote that Wrestling is not a sport, it is a spectacle,
which roughly translates as wrestling is about over-muscled
meathead chumps with spangly stars and stripes capes and bad
hair. But your granny probably loves it and is at her happiest
when watching a gruesome jaw-crushing headlock performed by a man
in lime green pants. Ross Marshall is mad for it as well. His
highly detailed, up-to-date pages reveal a sophistication not
immediately evident in a 'sport' or spectacle best known by kids
as BUNDLE!. Regular reports on WCW and WWF are accompanied by
Q&As on wrestling's top stars. It needs a few more pictures
as it's largely text-based but that's a minor point. On the
whole, it is a highly entertaining read. Now , whatever happened
to Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and, of course, Roland Barthes?

The game beloved of school children up and down the country
and the forerunner to baseball. This is the official site for the
National Rounders Association. If you thought rounders was
restricted to schools think again. This site talks proudly of the
national championships, international matches, and how the game
is growing in popularity amongst adults, alongside softball.
There are also contact details for all the known leagues in the
country. So now there's no excuse. Pick up your bat and old
PEkit and get rounding!

So you have either a VRML Web browser or a browser that
supports VRML and you're off, scooting into cyberspace, zooming
like a ball that's been drop-kicked over a football ground, down
into Ipswich's Portman Road. However, it's more interesting for
those that study Virtual Reality Modelling Language than for your
average Ipswich fan and let's hope it's some student project,
otherwise it'd be a complete waste of time.

This is an enormously touching tribute from a son to his
father. At just over 5ft, Dickie O'Sullivan was a tenacious
shortstop flyweight, fighting in the mid-40s and early 50s, who
earned a reputation for being a terrier in the boxing ring and so
got given the nickname the Toy Bulldog. His son Peter has
collected together a record of all his fights, along with press
cuttings and photos, and he is also looking for anyone who might
have once fought his dad. Dickie himself would like to relive old
times and Peter wants to able to add more material to his online
scrapbook and mementoes. This is a very touching and personal
piece of sporting history.

fine. As somewhere to find out about fun holiday destinations and

Obviously Surfcall provides a useful commercial service and one
it can ill afford to provide online, but given the choice between
getting the number out of a directory or using the Web site, I'd
say it's the directory every time.

was the first official site in the country, and by co-operating
with Bob Graham's 'History of Sunderland' book, this site has
managed to create a staggering history of the club from 1890/91
to the present day. The whole site is fast, well-crafted with an
eye for detail. You can also get to the site via the ambitious
and fascinating virtual city of Sunderland project at

fans who get a kick out of watching a couple of cross-looking,

yet enormously complex - go Sumo.

As a team you may have dismissed Stevenage Borough FC as a
minor GM Vauxhall Conference affair - 11 lads from a sad southern
new town most noted for a leisure centre named after Gordon Craig
(Ed...who?). But from Borough's perky Hertfordshire supporters
comes this unofficial team site which is testimony to a passion,
an obsession, an unlived dream, a full admission of 'it's taken
over my life'. Superb match reports plus hard fought and won
arguments about games and players. Anyone thinking of setting up
a site for their own team should check this first! See also the
excellent Subbuteo icons. Boro's fans, at least, are a winning
combination.

Invented for people who never quite grew out of Meccano by a
guy who wanted to make vacuum cleaning a spectator sport
(seriously!), Robot Wars features radio-controlled models trying
to rip each other to pieces with blades, saws and drills. The
third annual contest takes place on 16 August in, you guessed it,
the USA. Check out photos of past competitors with names like The
Master and La Machine but try not to hurt yourself laughing as
all would have been rejected by the producers of Mad Max for
looking too ridiculous. Saddos actually go along to watch and, by
the looks of things, also purchase taste-free merchandise online.

'To be perfectly Frank' is the unofficial Nottingham Forest

it into the premier league of Web sites (see Internet 22,

This has all the attitude of an ezine although it's primarily
for mountain biking junkies or 'mudsluts' in their particular
parlance. Based around the bike tracks and routes of North West
America it's not much use if you're off for a weekend in the Peak
District, but it has an outlook, a perspective, that's as much
fun to read about as it is to experience. A smart section called
Techno Weenie reviews all the latest gadgets and gizmos that are
bound to interest boy-obsessives (bike locks, high energy snacks,
syncros crank-o-matics!) but, more generally, there's a pretty
thorough list of links for all kinds of cyclists, not just those
in the dirt nation.

Rather interestingly this page is the kind to spring
surprises on one, collating as it does a rather bizarre and
undiscriminating mix of information and resources on all kinds of
horsey things. There are pages and addresses of American hunts,
pony clubs, dressage associations and polo clubs in odd corners
and far-flung bits of the world. A glossary of equine terms,
incomprehensible oddments on horse science (which presumably
means the sophisto-genetic shenanigans of breeding thoroughbreds
etc), as well as some weirdy short fiction, recollections and
remninisences of 'barn' smells. All in all, if you're one of the

Shaolin monastery of an Indian monk named Bodidharma to the
myriad styles and what kung fu involves. All I'm saying is don't
mess with the Shaolin.

Unofficial home page for quite good Australian Rules Football
Club, Essenden, aka The Mighty Bombers. The club is currently
honouring the 'great' Dick Reynolds by forming a luncheon club in
this name. Quite frankly, any team with a player called Cockatoo
Collins is all right by me.

Catering for both rads and trads, this is really a site for
experienced climbers, although the glossary is great for those
just starting out! The fact that it's based in the US is
irrelevant (except with regard to the legal information).
Otherwise, it covers everything from techniques to training,
safety, equipment and climbs, including a posting from Jim and
Fred with their experiences of Cheddar Gorge.

If the Olympics run as smoothly as this Web site, they'll be
tip top fantastic. All venue, event, ticket and travel
information is held in an easily searchable manner. Audio and
video files of the welcome address and Izzy, the mascot, are in
all formats and of course there's a word from our sponsors.
Atlanta is the home of Coca Cola after all.

Kinsley Wong manages to combine all the excitement and
exhilaration of taking to the air with a very practical and
informative approach. Great pictures and an MPEG clip, a wish
list of Paraglider's wants, a contacts lists of other pilots,
manufactors, contests and events, and an accident form in case of
mishap. Woah...it's high up here.

Here's a way to keep up with who's who in the (unfortunately
US-only at this stage) stockdog trials. This is where the only
two mammals with any mutual affection collaborate to corner a
very stupid animal into an enclosure. It's then cut into
disproportionate shares and eventually eaten. The ambush is
appraised by the dominant species while the subordinates inspect
each other's equipment. There are also some sturdy shots of
startled sheep, if that's your scene.
