HELPING FRIENDS
We have many working friends of the four legged kind
And it is dogs, cats and horses that always comes to mind,
But did you know that our feathered friend help as well,
Sit back and listen and of some of these to you I’ll tell.

Long ago before breathing masks became into view,
The miners had pet canneries that did their work too,
For gases used to leak out that workers could not smell,
And if the cannery did not sing then be still men could tell
That they should leave the area or soon stop breathing too,
Yes, canneries saved many an ancestor just to make you.

Carrier pigeons during war time important messages took,
Flying through artillery, rifles, tanks, till the earth shook,
So plans of importance could go from one place to another,
These brave carrier pigeons saved many a human brother.
They too were loved and cared for two ways to help man
For the need of warm affect was the best part of t he plan.

Today we saw to hawks flying over a great, busy airport,
Having their morning exercise before work to report.
It seems odd that they can help us humans in any way at all,
Yet are always willing to come when they hear the master call.
Flocks of seagulls and geese from around need to be shunned away,
Or there would be hundreds of plane crashes every single day.

So please along with our four legged friends don’t forget the birds,
And there maybe other jobs they do of which I have not even heard,
But it behoves us to treat well all creatures great and small
With love and respect them and thank God who is over it all.
