WHEN THINGS GO WRONG
When we have ones of those days when all goes wrong
From the moment you arise until night comes along,
Big things, little things and everything in between,
One of the worst days for ages that you have seen.
Things break down and you go the wrong way,
You forget half the shopping, go back later in the day,
Burn the meal, and the hook comes off the clothes line,
And all your clean washing dirty again, you want to pine.
The car will not start and you miss the hourly bus,
Two of the children have toothache and are making a fuss
The dentist cannot fit them in until quite late-on tomorrow,
There is a phone call a friend is sick so comes more sorrow.
Things could be worse you think as the day plods slowly on,
You smile and try and sing a song so the battle will be won,
When a storm comes to soak the clean washing on the line,
And the power goes off so how will you be able to dine.
Phone lines are down and the wind rages with an angry face,
The kitchen full of dripping wet washing with no place
To dry the soaking mass of clothes, everywhere a disgrace,
The dog is sick on the new rug, now the cat the dog does chase.
There is a crash, something is broken, what can it be
Not the crystal vase that was just given as a gift to me!
The rain water is coming in fast under the kitchen door
However hard I try to just covers the clean kitchen floor.
End day please, before something else happens on this day,
I think Ill hide under the bed and until bedtime there stay,
Now the power is back and I can dry the washing, tidy around,
In walks my beloved husband asking why his dinner is not found.
