Life's Questions and Answers

Fundamental questions of life have always puzzled humankind throughout the ages. Today, we continue the quest for answers. In this section, we will raise many of the age-old questions and present answers based on the perspective of the Unification Principle. Unification Principle comes as a new and plain expression of God's truth for our age. Its purpose is to unify and guide humankind into a new era of peace and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth.

We hope that you will find clarity, simplicity, logic, and very importantly; the heart and purpose of God for creating mankind, and the direction we ought to take as we enter the present new millennium.

Frequently asked questions:

*Does God exist? *Who or what is God? *Why can't we see God directly?

Answer:

It is obvious that: even though we exist and have great intellect, emotion and will, we ourselves, are not the cause of our own existence or of the universe. Like the universe, we are the effect or the result of a First, or Original Cause. Logically and purposefully, a cause must exist. We call the Original Cause "God." However, it is not that important what we call this cause, whether God, Allah, Cosmic Being, or some other name. What is more important is "the nature of the Cause" and our ensuing relationship to that Cause.

God, as the Original Cause, is the Creator of the cosmos (universe and spirit world), and the Original Parent of mankind. We are able to conclude this because: (1), our greatest and most profound desire is for true love which is connected to our existence and purpose of life.

(2), All things in creation also desire love. True love is the greatest force in the universe, and like all other forces must originate from a source. That source or origin is the heart of God.

(3), The fundamental nature of love from the heart (heartistic love) is to impulsively flow outward, resulting in the creation of an object of the heart (e.g. one's second self or offspring, or a created thing, such as an invention, painting, etc.).

God, being Creator and Parent, created man in His direct image after His own nature. Man (male and female) originally embodied the true heart of God. Further, God, as Creator, is also the Original Source of all true values, primarily: truth, beauty and goodness connected with our intellect, emotion and will, respectively.

We are unable to see God directly because we are not completely one with him. We experience contradiction within ourselves and are not united in mind and body. Therefore, we are not able to see the fullness of God, only a semblance of Him.

God, who is absolute, unique, eternal and unchanging, requires an object (a beloved) of his heart. One who has perfected true love. A person who has attained the level of perfected love on the individual level, becomes one with God and is like God (Jesus proclaimed such an accomplishment - Jn.14:10). However, man and woman in harmonious marriage reflects the fullness of the image of God (Gen1:27).

*What is the purpose and meaning of life? *How can we fulfill the true purpose of life?

The purpose of life is to attain true joy and happiness. All mankind and all things in creation desire to be happy, and therefore seek to find happiness.

True joy and happiness can only be found when we are in harmony with the original purpose established by God for man. This is to fulfill the original "three blessings." The three blessings (Gen.1:28) established at the time of creation of man (and woman), are:
(1) That man and woman "be fruitful" (i.e. become individually perfected in heart and love) as a true son or daughter of God.
(2) That man and woman "multiply" themselves (fulfill true marriage and family).
(3) That man and woman establish lordship (dominion of love) over all things in creation.

In fulfilling the above Purpose of Creation, each person, and all mankind, collectively, would experience living in the Kingdom of Heaven experiencing true joy and happiness.

*Did we really evolve from monkeys? *Couldn't God have created by evolution? * Is "creationism" true?

Answer:

First, the idea of evolution, that "man evolved from apes through the random, arbitrary forces of nature over extended periods of time," is not a proven fact of science, but rather a theory only. This idea was made popular by Charles Darwin, in his book: "The Origin of species," published in 1859.

Unification Principle (UP) shows that God created each entity (being or other) as an "individual truth body." Each entity is a unique creation. This can be proven by understanding the universal "Principle of Creation." The Principle of Creation can be activated by all beings in existence. From the lowest level to the highest. In creation, man shows the highest level of creativity. In actuality, the Principle of Creation is expressed by: (1) conceiving an idea (logos). (2) By use of our creativity, we are able to plan, organize, develop and manifest (substantiate) the idea. And, (3) we conclude by testing and approving the final result.

This principle of creation can certainly be respected by science, because it is the very principle through which science itself operates (hypothesis, expermentation, observation and conclusion) . The principle of creation further shows that all entities in creation have an internal character and external form (dual characteristics), and exist as male and female or positive and negative partner-types, for the sake of complementing each other and producing a resultant entity (product or offspring). All "individual truth bodies" find their origin in God's original nature.

The main reason beings have similiar or seemingly evolved characteristics is due to their common origin in God, the same creator, who purposely created in a developing (ascending) order, finalizing in man, the zenith of His creative acts.

Well, did God create by evolution? Could He have created by way of evolution? Certainly God is God and He can and could create in whatever way He wanted. However, God in His wisdom choose to create in a particular way which can be observed and duplicated by man. Because God is unique, absolute, eternal and unchanging in his love, He invested his creativity in each entity and then blessed it to multiply through male-female give and take (sexuality), Gen1:22. Therefore, each new being originates from the parent stock of it own kind (species), and not from the evolution of another species (e.g. a monkey, is a monkey, is always a monkey. He/she comes from the mama monkey, and does monkey business until he/she dies). This conclusion is consistent and unchanging in all of creation. It must be stated at this point, that all things in creation were endowed with the power or capacity to adapt to changing externals, e.g. environment. However, the power to adapt is far less than the power to cause the emergence of new species. Each new being always originate from the parent stock. All creation shows this to be true.

What about "creationism"? The Unification Principle (UP) explains that many details of creationism are not entirely consistent with the principle of creation. For example: "Though God actually created the world, He did not do so in six literal 24 hour days. But that each "day" is a period of time comparable to scientific discovery (e.g. the azoic period etc.). " The UP also teaches that God created all living beings, including man, to naturally grow and develop through "stages of growth," creationism declares that God created all beings at the adult stage.

* Did God actually create man and the universe in six literal days (i.e., 24 hr periods)?

The biblical narrative of the Genesis creation is essentially an overview of the process of God's creative acts in the beginning. In relating the chronological stages, the Bible uses the word "day" in different senses. We see at least four different ways in which the word "day" is used: First, in 1:5a, the word "day" denotes "light" as it contrasts to darkness.

Second, "...first day" (1:5b) denotes "a period or length of time," such as an epoch or era. The text states that "There was evening and morning, the first day." As is commonly known, an evening and morning do not comprise a normal day. There is "night" between an evening and morning. After midnight, a new day (a second day) begins. In Rev. Moon's Divine Principle it is explained that, "A created being realizes its perfection in the morning. The night symbolizes the period of its growth and development." We can conclude that "day" is used in a symbolic manner.

Third, "day" (1:14a-16) means "daytime" as in sunrise to sunset.

Fourth, "...and for 'days,' and years" (1:14b). Here, "day" would be referring to a 24 hour period as it comprises a typical day (seven days = one week, 365 days = one year).

Fifth, in 2:17, after the creation, we encounter: "...in the 'day' you eat of it...." It is evident here, that God means: in "the moment" you eat of it. Spiritually speaking, an act of violation against God's direction has immediate consequence.

In conclusion, it becomes obvious that "the six days of creation" were not actual literal days, but "periods of time;" epocs, eras or stages established by God to bring everything to completion. Stages comparable to the geological periods discovered in the field of modern science -Cosmozoic, Azoic, Archeozoic, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, and Cenozoic eras.

* How can we prove that evolution is true or false?

By spiritually and physically observing the consistent, unchanging laws and principles in existence, their operations in directing and controlling life, and the many processes that sustain life, we can come to a clear understanding that Darwin's theory is not true. Life and its principles (Principles of Creation) are purposeful, innovative, sensitive and directional. They are the products of an Original Cause (God) who is the source of all true qualities.

God embodies the original emotion, intellect and will; also, original internal nature (heart/mind) and original external form (power/energy), and, original masculinity and femininity. All His attributes are projected into creation (Rom.1:20); directly in man (Gen.1:27), and symbolically in all things (1:1-25). There is an internal nature and an external form to man, likewise, in all entities and forces in existence in the physical world. There is also no exception to the male/female or positivity/negativity dual characteristics that define all entities. Existence, multiplication and action take place based on God's Principle of Creation through "give and take action."

New life emerges not by random forces acting upon some abitrary object, as Darwin postulates but, by the consistent and unchanging give and take principle of male and female or positive and negative partners interacting and uniting to bring about the same result under the same conditions. This has been repeating itself over millions of years since their initial creation. For example, man and woman (as subject and object partners) engaged in the give and take of love have always and will always produce a human child (an offspring of their own kind). Species that have been in existence for millions of years (by the estimate of modern science), e.g., Alligators, turtles, etc., still produce their own kind, today. Somehow, Darwin's strange assertions just do not seem to take hold on any of these creatures of wonder.

Even when he resorts to using variants in genetic mutations and subtle adaptations in species (that in the end proved to be reversible) because of particular environmental conditions, he still is unable to justify his case.

The earth still spins on its axis and revolves around the sun as it has been doing for billions of years. The earth and the sun have not evolved into other things. If evolution was true, they (the earth, sun and other objects in space) should have been giant living creatures walking around by now. Sounds ridiculous? Well, such are the theory and the conclusions of evolution.

Is everything in life just relative? What is the relationship between God and man? What really is God's will?

Why is there evil in the world, if God is good? Why are there so many religions? Which is the right one?

What is the purpose of man and woman? Is marriage important to life? Can true peace become a reality in our divided world?
