POSTCARD IDEA #1


SUBJECT AREA: Social Studies/Geography
TITLE: Mapping Postcards
GRADE LEVEL: Elementary

MATERIALS NEEDED:
(1)laminated picture of the world (3)scissors
(4)yarn of any color(s)
(5)received postcards
(6)tape

METHODOLOGY:
(1)Put the laminated world map on the wall.
(2)Have yarn already pre-cut for use.
(3)Pass around the postcard for the class to see.
(4)As one's class receives postcards have them locate where the postcard came from on the map.
(6)Questions could be asked about the location of the postcard. (ex.)What states or countries border the state or country of the postcard. What direction does the state or country located (north, south, west, east) in the continent to which the state or country is located. Questions are endless with this postcard idea.
(7)After locating where the poscard came from take a piece of yarn and tape it to the location on the map. Attach the other end of the yarn to the postcard and tape it to the wall outside of the world map.
(8)The most important thing is to have FUN!

POSTCARD IDEA #2

SUBJECT AREA:Social Studies/Geography
TITLE:Photo Album Postcards
GRADE LEVEL:Elementary

MATERIALS NEEDED:
(1)photo album
(2)received postcards
(3)die cuts (various colors and shapes)
(4))stickers (acid free)
(5)markers
(6)acid free paper (various colors)
(7)Plastic pages for the album that will hold a whole page that is decorated.
(8)old magazines
(9)state packets (usually free)
(10)glue
(11)scissors

METHODOLOGY:
(1)Give students acid free colored paper and an assortment of items to decorate the page with.
(2)Let the students be creative with everything! It is amazing what the students will come up with.
(3)After the pages are decorated by the students put them in the plastic pockets and put them into the photo album.
(4)HAVE FUN!

Postcard Idea #2 can be used after one is done with Postcard Idea #1. Both postcard ideas can be used for display on Parent/Teacher Conference Night/Day or Open House. One can be very creative and have a lot of fun with these ideas. I hope that one can use these ideas and have fun.

"United States Twister Game"




SUBJECT AREA: Social Studies/Geography

TITLE: United States Twister Game

GRADE LEVEL: Elementary (K-8)

MATERIALS NEEDED:
(1)White flat sheet
(2)markers
(3)construction paper(white)
(4)1 brad
(5)scissors
(6)copy of game rules (7)container to hold game

METHODOLOGY:

(1)This game is for 2-4 players.
(2)Decide on a region of the United States that you need to have.
(3)Draw pictures of each state on the sheet in different colors. One can either use a different color maker and make an outline of each state or color the whole picture. (4)Make 3 rows. Place the states in diffent positions in each row.
(5)In the center of each state's picture put the name of the state or abreviation.
(6)Take a piece of laminated construction paper and make it into a square the size one wants.
(7)Put the capitals of each state in the same colors as the state on the game on the construction paper. This is going to be the spinner. Now the spinner is ready to be laminated
(8)Make the spinners out of black construction paper. Like one of the hands on a clock.
(9)Now it is time to play the game.!

How To Play United States Twister:
(1)One person gets to be the spinner.
(2)The person with the spinner spins the spinner then calls out the name of the capital.
(3)The other 2-4 players will look for the state of the capital called out.
(4)The students on the game board will then put either one hand or one foot on the state.
(5)The spinner will then make sure the ones on the game board are correct before moving onto the next one.
(6)This is repeated until someone falls to the floor.
(7)The last thing is to have FUN!!!

"Presidents Memory Game"



SUBJECT AREA: Social Studies

TITLE: Presidents Memory Game

GRADE LEVEL: Intermediate (4-8)

MATERIALS NEEDED:
(1)Unruled index cards
(2)tiny stickers of various patterns
(3)markers
(4)pictures of Presidents
(5)Fact about each President
(6)Rules of how to play
(7)container to hold game
(8)Poster board
(9)scissors

INTRODUCTION:

This lesson is to help reinforce the knowledge of the Presidents. A game for the students to enjoy while learning about the Presidents. This is a great game for an activity or a learning center to be used during center time. HAVE FUN!!!

METHODOLOGY:

(1)This game is for 1-4 players.
(2)Make picture cards with the President's picture.
(3)Make index cards with facts about each President. One card per President.
(4)Put a tiny sticker on each President's picture card with all being different.Put a matching tiny sticker on the fact card that matches the President's picture card.
(5)Now let's play!
(6)Place all the President's facts cards face down in a pile.
(7)Have your board game with the pockets with each President's names on the pockets.
(8)President's picture cards, when drawn, goes into the correct pockets.
(9)A player will draw a fact card from the pile.
(10)The player will read the facts and place the card in the pocket of the President they think is the correct one.
(11)After putting the card in the President's pocket then the player will take out both the picture card and the fact card and see if they are correct.
(12)The tiny matching stickers will be on each picture card and fact card.
(13)That is the self check.
(14)The student with the most matches wins the game.
(15)HAVE FUN!!

State/Capital Game Book

Introduction: This is a game used for small groups or learning centers. It is in the form a book. Match the state picture, name of state, and capital. It is great for learning centers.

Materials Needed:
1. construction paper
2. markers
3. scissors
4. anything to put the game together (book bind it is best)
5. lamination
6. tiny stickers (for self checking)
7. note pad for scores
8. cut out of stars (for capitals)

Methodology:
1. Take one sheet of construction paper and fold it into 3 parts.
2. On one of the thirds, draw or glue a picture of a state without its name.
3. On another third, write the name of the state.
4. On the last third, have the capital written on a cut out star. Glue this to the last third.
5. Put a matching tiny sticker on each third. This will let the students know they have the answer right or wrong.
6. On the back of the picture part, just put a couple of cities and geographical location on it.
7. On the name of the state part, put the nickname of the state and some landmarks.
8. On the capital part, symbols and emblems.
9. Now cut each third and laminate until you have all 50 states and capitals done.
10. I made mine into a book. With a book binder machine.
11. Also make a cover and a plain back for the book and laminate it as well.
12. Have FUN!!
