"The myth is the public dream and the dream is the private myth. If your private myth, your dream, happens to coincide with that of your society, then you are in good accord with you group...If not...you have a long adventure in the dark forest ahead of you." - Joseph Campbell

My Life, as it is

Hello. My name is Mike Jacobson, I'm 18, and I live in the happy little town of Olmsted Falls, Ohio. I go to the local public high school and enjoy it quite a bit.

I would say something profound about having a long adventure ahead of me, but Joe up there already has. I'm currently in the process of waiting to be accepted (note optimistic word choice) to several colleges, and it's not a pleasant thing to have sitting in my mind. Oh well. I'll live. Long. And prosper. Hopefully.

Obviously writing is very important to me, probably because I really don't know how to do anything else nearly as well. So this page is essentially full of stuff I've written, and not much else.

In my other copious amounts of spare time, I neurotically enjoy playing online games like Counter-Strike and Total Annihilation. I used to play Dragonrealms quite a bit, but I'd advise you not to. It's a text-based online role-playing game, which essentially means you spend hundreds of hours creating and augmenting a character, when you could very well be washing the car or having an interesting conversation with someone. As for the other two, I like shooting/burning/exploding things/people. Go figure.

If you're really interested for some reason, you can go check out my Counter-Strike clan's webpage.

Also I am a member of both the Speech/Debate team (Forensics) and the Drama club (Masquers) at my high school. We're putting on My Fair Lady this spring, and I'm hoping for a fun role.

This page used to be devoted to religion and philosophy. At some point I realized that neither theology nor metaphysics was helping me improve my life, so I largely stopped thinking about them. They're still interesting; they just aren't as...important. Running around outside is more important than Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, and as far as I'm concerened they both have an equal claim to the meaning of life.

My favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert. My favorite movies are 2001: A Space Odyssey, Bridge Over the River Kwai and Dances With Wolves. Actually these change fairly regularly.

There's not much more you should be interested in. But if there is, email me. Or IM me, my AIM name is Nyghtfyr, and my ICQ number is 102246819.
