Directions for submitting county list totals

(1) All birds counted on a list must be observed in accordance with ABA Recording Rules and Code of Ethics.  A bird must be on the ABA Checklist to be counted.

(2) There are four types of lists: Life, Big Year, Big Day, and Total Ticks.

bullet

Big Years must be completed within one calendar year, and Big Days must be completed within one calendar day.

Total Ticks is the sum of all county life list totals.  For example, if you see the same 100 species in five counties, your total ticks would be 500.  Seeing the same species in all 67 counties counts as 67 ticks, not 1.

(3) Please submit items in the appropriate format and with counties listed in alphabetical order.  Big Year totals should also report the year, and Big Day totals should report the specific date.  Here are some sample items:

Total Ticks:

Total Ticks, Rex Rowan, 3930

County Life Totals:

Alachua, Life, Rex Rowan, 296

County Big Year Totals:

Alachua, Big Year, Mike Manetz, 241 (2000)

County Big Day Totals:

Alachua, Big Day, Rex Rowan, 123 (5/1/97)

(4) There are no minimum thresholds for reporting totals, and every tick counts toward the total tick category.  However, I’ll only post county totals of 20 or more.

(5) Email your data to gatorbob23@yahoo.com

(6) For Big Years, I will only post totals that are higher than the current Big Day total or at least 65% of the current Big Year record for that county, whichever is higher.

(7) For Big Days, I will only post totals that are at least 65% of the current record for that county.
