Favorite Band: Marylin Manson Favorite Author: Anne Rice | Comments: There is a large ranch south of Shallowater, Tx. on NCR1500. From HWY84 turning south on the crossroads by the blinking lights there is a large beige house, small white house, a barn, and a large two story white house on this ranch to the right. This land has had a long time legend for us in Shallowater and in Lubbock. Not very widely talked about, but it is cursed and has some of the most violent history around. First off in the early 1800's there was a small stone house that sat on the lake behind the no standing gray barn. The lake is still there and the stone house remnants are still there. A banshee is well known to residents in and around the area. The banshee is described as an ugly old sharped tooth hag that runs around screaming of impending doom o follow on the land. Apparently in the early 1800's the banshee was heard and a a 9 year old girl that lived in the old stone house drowned in the lake after her father killed her mother and then threw the girl in the lake. Varying stories are heard of t is incident but the residents will tell you the facts. In the 1970's two theives stole a barn full of pigs, while they were carrying out the pigs to load in their truck, the banshee screamed and pointed at them, they were involved in a freak accident kill ng both of them and the pigs, this is documented in the avalanche journal from that time. Later in the 70's a couple of high school students were knocking down mail boxes when the banshee cried and pointed at them, their car immediatly flipped over killin the driver. The driver haunts the homes and the land to this day wondering around. Apparently, it is not violent only confused. There is a black hooded figure that walks around, looks like it is wearing a dark thick cape and just floats around the lake, his has been seen only by a few people and in the large two story white house and the beige house by visitors, not the residents. You can usually hear and see these spirits throughout the day in various spots, and hear crying and hopefully you will not he r the banshee crying. I was lucky enough to be allowed to camp out, I saw the young boy and the young girl in the second floor window of the white house. The family members that live in the white house are not friendly to queries, it's the old man that ow s the ranch, but his other family members allow people to investigate and are very nice in telling the history of the land. They haven't seen alot that most people see, but they know and have heard the banshee and the curse, and the boy and girl ghosts. A definite haunted place! |
