Sarkaroth
A small tip for the benefit of other arty types. If ever you are presented with a description of a character that, somewhere, mentions items of clothing made from the scales of a dragon, do not (that’s DO NOT) attempt to draw them. Instead, substitute said items for things made from cotton or polyester, and hope no-one notices.
Dragonscale trousers. Sarkaroth (the 11ft tall and interminably bad-tempered chieftain of a clan of orcs called the Chipped Claws, if you’re wondering who this big scary-looking bugger is. He was dreamt up by a clever fellow by the name of Lord Tryannix, and is another OWCH contender) wears dragonscale trousers. It sounded so harmless at the time. And in fact they posed no problems at all for quite a while. Sketching them was no trouble, just a few quick swipes of the old 2B, and when it came to inking them it was a similarly simple job. Just get into the rhythm of doing all the little loops, and you’re done. Easy.
And then, then, I started colouring them. And colouring them. And colouring them. And some other bits of them. And some more. Of them. Forever.
It took years.
Happily it ended up looking rather groovy, but bloody hell, it was hard going. In future I’m only drawing characters who wear denim.
