SMK Maxwell
(Maxwell Secondary School) was established in the year 1924. Today, it's one of the oldest
schools in Malaysia. It got its name from the road in front of the school
(formerly known as Jalan Maxwell) and a hill behind the school.
In the early
days of its establishment, this school was known as Maxwell Boys Primary
School. It was a primary school for the children of government officers
and distinguished people who lived around Kenny Hill (Bukit Tunku).
Since its
establishment, this school has gone through many events facing the country.
From 1933 to 1939, this school was closed because of world economic recession.
In 1941, it was closed again because it was used as barracks for
Japanese soldiers. Then in 1947, it was reopened and renovations were carried
out to convert this school into a secondary school, which offered a few modern
subjects such as accountancy, typing, commerce and others. This was a historic
moment for this school.
Now, there
are many changes in the curriculum as well as the co-curriculum of the school. There
are more than 30 clubs and societies. These clubs and societies are active
and often excel in their fields. There are approximately 1400 students
and 74 teachers.
SMK Maxwell continues striving to ensure
that our country's younger generation achieves success in both the curriculum and
the co-curriculum. With this, it hopes
that they will be useful and responsible citizens of Malaysia.
