Kimono is Japan's traditional clothing. It is worn during the formal New Year celebration. Kimono is used to be worn everyday, but now it is only worn during formal event. It is because it is difficult to wear Kimono and it is also very expensive. The woman that is not married wears long sleeve kimono. Japan's famous clothing is Kyoto's Nishijin-ori.

Different Places Have Different Food

In Fukuoka, where were live, mentaiko is famous. Hakata's ramen is also famous. Hiroshima and Osaka is famous for Okonomiyaki. In Nara, naratsuke is famous. Akita is famous for kiritanpo. Hokkaido is famous for Sapporo ramen and seafood. Pork is often eaten in Okinawa. Okinawa is also famous for Goya chanpuruand Mimiga etc.

 

 

 

 

T H E D O L L F E S T I V A L

Hinamatsuri is a festial for girls held on March 3rd. About ten dolls are lined up in the tatami room. There is also song about the dolls. When one get married, the dolls are put away. On girls' day, we also eat candy. Each doll has a different name and has a different position on the selve.

"Origami" is the art of paper folding in Japan. The paper for "Origami" has many colors. For example: pink, read, blue, green, gold and silver. There are various size. For example: big, medium and small. We use origami to make various things. For example: crane, sumo etc. There is a meaning behind Origami. Crans's origami is a symbol of peace. This practice is still going on today. We give origami to sick people, so they can become fine earlier. This is a superstitious practice. Origami is a way for people to show friendly feelings to others in Japan.

H I N A M A T S U R I

Hinamatsuri is the girls' festival. Hinamatsuri is on March 3rd. During girls' festival, we decorate our house with dolls. For example, Odairisama doll and Ohinasama doll. It is popular to drink Amazake and to eat Hinaarare during the festival. When the girls' festival is finished, it is important to take the dolls away on time, otherwise, one would be delayed in marriage.

Ozouni is eaten during the celebration of Japan's New Year. In Japan, different regions use different materials. In Fukuoka, where we live, we put rice cake, carrot, siitake and hakusai into Ozouni. Different regions in Japan have different seasoning. In Fukuoka, where we live, Ozouni has a soy sauce flavor. In other places, they have miso taste. We wish all of you will have a chance to eat Ozouni.

Miso soup tastes very good. Japanese often use miso soup as a side dish for breakfast. It is eaten in breakfast. Miso soup contains tofu and seaweed. Miso soup is the heart of Japanese food. Miso soup is a reminder of our mothers.
