This is a formal kimono. It is made of cotton. Both men and women can wear one in the summer. It is also worn in ryokan or for attending local festivals. Kimono is beautiful. Why don't you put on a kimono?

Kimono is put on during celebration events. For example: marriage and coming of age ceremony. Yukata (picture on the left) is put on during summer. For example: summer festival and Bon festival dance.

This day is a day for girl. It is on March 3rd. On that day, we eat and drink sweet sake, hinaarare (candy), cake etc. We put dolls on seven levels selve. We sing doll festival song. It is important to put the dolls away on time, otherwise one's marriage would be delayed.

 

 

 

R E N T A R O T A K I(1879-1903)

He is a composer. He was born in Tokyo and raised in Oita. He moved to Tokyo to study in the Tokyo misic school at sixteen years old. He was interested in R.A.Schmann. Later, he went to Germany to study music at ninteen years old. But he quitted school and returned to Japan because he had pleurisy. He went back to Oita for treatment, but he died painfully when vomitting blood. His work has songs, such as "Song of Kindergarten" and "The Seasons and Music of Piano", "Grudge to Disease, regret and Menuetto."

 

T H E K A R A S U T E N G U F E S T I V A L

Karasu Tengu Festival is an annual festival in Buzen. There are many interesting events such as Buzen Tengu drum performance, demon dance, free market, product exhibition and many more. Our mascot's name is Kuboten. The form of the hot balloon is the shap of Kuboten. This hot balloon is sent to not only America, but also various places in Japan as a symbol of the city. This year is the ninth time of this festival and it is also the last time that the balloon will fly.
