WSSA Standing Committees



   Standing committees carry out the work of the Association. The following is a list of the WSSA committees and their functions:

Executive Committee
Coordinates the efforts of all Association committees. Corresponds with state, county and legislative policy makers. Takes official action on Association matters. The committee is comprised of Association officers and District Presidents.

Child Care Committee
Deals with issues relating to the need for counties to provide input into the development and implementation of the regulations that govern child day care programs. State representatives from both DES and DCS work closely with this committee to address manual content, training, policy, procedures and automation.

Conference Planning Committee
Develops the annual conference and training institute. Recruits and secures speakers for general sessions and workshops, plans meal functions, coordinates banquet and awards ceremonies. Responsible for both functional and fiscal planning of the conference.

Constitution & Bylaws Committee
Updates the Constitution and Bylaws to reflect changes voted on by membership. Reviews district constitutions to keep in line with the state constitution. Drafts and/or reviews resolutions to be voted upon at the annual business meeting.

County/State/Legislative Committee
Serves as WSSA'a direct connection with the Department of Health and Social Services secretary's office. Networks with other WSSA program committees to bring issues to representatives from state departments and divisions in a joint cooperative effort toward resolution. Keeps informed of and studies proposed legislation affecting human services. Seeks recommendations from the membership on proposed legislation and reports the results of their findings to committees of the Legislature at scheduled hearings.

Economic Support/Workforce Development Committee
Represents local agency partnership with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) in the planning, review and administration of economic support, Wisconsin Works (W-2) and employment and training programs. A major goal is to achieve efficient program administration by simplifying procedures and clarifying concerns identified by ES and Division of Economic Support (DES) staff. Plays a vital role in the development and interpretation of policies and procedures, the sharing of effective program designs and strategies and long range planning for employment and training programs.

ES Nursing Home/Community Waiver Committee
Provides input to both DES and the Bureau of Long Term Support (BLTS) in ES issues related to nursing home and community waiver programs. Works cooperatively with the WSSA Long Term Support Committee to promote improvements to the nursing home/community waiver delivery system.

Finance Committee
Prepares and submits an annual budget for Executive Committee approval. Audits the Association's financial records. Makes recommendations to the Executive Committee on appropriate conduct for fiscal operations.

General Relief Committee
Functions as a resource to all counties for the purpose of improving the General Relief program throughout the State of Wisconsin. A state DH&SS liaison representative interacts with the committee. Presents workshops to offer valuable information and timely topics in the field of General Relief.

Long Term Support Committee
Advocates on behalf of program recipients and county agencies. The committee reviews and recommends revisions of state policy to appropriate DH&SS bureaus and offices. Through WSSA, the committee seeks to impact Long Term Support issues at the legislative level.

Membership Committee
Encourages agency and individual WSSA memberships. Recruits nominees for elections to district and state offices and standing committees.

PR/Awards Committee
Promotes human service programs, accomplishments, benefits to members and WSSA conferences and workshops. Recruits nominations for Association rewards for outstanding service and contributions of WSSA members.

Service Support Committee
Represents a vast array of para-professionals throughout the state who provide support services to children, adults, people with disabilities and the elderly in the community. They address the issues, concerns and training needs of service support workers.

Social/Human Services Committee
Communicates with the Division of Community Services (DCS) on social/human service issues and programs. Allows WSSA members a formal means of receiving and suggesting needed changes in the social/human services area. A liaison from the state meets frequently with the committee.
