On this page I am going to try to say a little more about myself,
and my life today.....

If you've visited our family home page (index), then you already know a bit about me, my family, and what I do for a living. If not, then here are the naked facts:

My name is Jane Brakstad Waters, and I came into the world on the 6th of July 1966. (If you want to know more about my background, you can follow the link to my "life story".)
I've been married to Paul since April 1991, and we've got three boys: Jonathan ('95), Marcus ('97) and Benjamin ('00).
We are officers in the Salvation Army, now (Autumn '01) stationed in Sarpsborg, where we are responsible for leading the Salvation Army corps (church).

My interests include reading, particularly thrillers, and at the moment my favourite authors are John Grisham, Michael Crichton and David Balucci...
Naturally I read a good deal of Christian literature as well, and my favourites there are Adrian Plass, Max Lucado and Phillip Yancey...
(After I got children, I've also begun to like Winnie the Pooh!)

I also like comic strips, particularly Larsson's Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, and Beatle Bailey.

Film and TV are also among my great passions. I love a good film or a decent series. My favourite series, among others, are Seinfeld, Friends, Frasier... and I have to admit that I'm addicted to Dawson's Creek and the like.

As far as film goes, a lot of things can make the difference between what I think is good or bad. Apart from the actual story line, I also like analysing the technical stuff. How the cameras' are used, special effects, stunts, music, all contribute to the film experience. I don't remember which film it was, but for five minutes we saw nothing but a plastic bag dancing in the wind - and it was incredibly good! I've seen so many pure action films that they've started to get boring, and it takes a lot for me to be impressed by a new stunt. If the car chase lasts more than five minutes I start to yawn... But give me a real psychological thriller, a good comedy or drama, and my evening is saved :o)
The last film I saw that I thought was really good was "The Unbreakable" - intelligent filming, and the first film for ages that got my hair to stand on end for a moment. Other recommended films are "Amistad", "Lorenzo's Oil", "Shine", "Arlington Road", "Johns" and probably many more (we'll see if I add any more here as time goes on).
I must also admit - although I'm not a fanatic - that I'm looking forward to the next "Star Wars" release...

I also watch some "reality TV". I followed the Norwegian "Big Brother" and now it's the Robinson Expedition, which I think is OK.

If you've surfed onto some of my other pages, (and understand Norwegian ) - you'll know that FC Brann, the football (soccer) team from my home town of Bergen, is pretty much a congenital passion.. Unfortunately they didn't do too well this year ('01), but a Brann supporter can't be anything but an eternal optimist!

Apart from all that, I play the cornet, and I'm a member of the Salvation Army Band here in Sarpsborg. Music isn't so much a passion, but I think it's OK to play and listen to. I'm not one of those people who always have to have music around them at all times. In fact, I can't stand background music, if I hear music then I have to listen to it properly, otherwise it's just distracting. The only music I really haven't been able to learn to like is opera and heavy rock, apart from that I'm pretty well omniverous.

And then... Well, the children occupy a lot of time. Jonathan started school this year. Otherwise he's mostly occupied with building Lego and playing computer games. Marcus is a completely different kind character, he's happiest when he can dress up as his heroes - Buzz Lightyear is the current favourite... Benjamin doesn't say much, yet, but he can make himself understood, and he loves running around after his big brothers and generally being where they are. It's pretty much all go, but I really enjoy being with them, and I try to live in the present as much as possible - to be where they are, and not wait until they're bigger and cleverer...

When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you sometimes find that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.
