Parents Guide

Guiding young people through early adolescence is a major task for parents and caregivers. One of the main concerns is that young people in their care may misuse drugs. Adults need to know what they can do to make this less likely to occur. They also need to know how to support a child should they get into difficulties.

For this reason the New Zealand Police have produced a resource package "Dare to support Your Kids", for parents and caregivers. The development of the material was co-ordinated by Gill Patterson. The factual information about drugs was researched by Linda Watson, Tutor/Consultant in Addiction Studies.

This guide has been designed specifically for parents and caregivers of primary school age children. Information has been provided about the drugs, which are most likely to be misused by this age group.
