My Other Home

There's a place in my mind
It goes far back in time
And only a thought puts me there
I reminisce for a while
Play as a child
And no-one can stir the air.

If I could board a ship and
Sail to a land where the sun
Always follows the rain
Monkeys hang by their tails
Coati-mundi eat snails
I'd be back home again.

It may not be the same
But I can still play the game
Though a guest in my home I would be
Brings a tear to my eye
Parrots streak through the sky
In this land across the sea

If I could but do it over again
I pray a few friends be there
Where temperatures rise to eighty-five
And native songs fill the air

Oh my heart scintillates
Recalling the days, and
Comrades that used to be
In a land not our own
In a Honey-comb
Where the jungle yields mystery.

If you see this land before I do
And if a few friends greet you there
Wipe that tear from your eye
In the sweet by and by
We'll all meet in that land so fair.

Oh de echo of thunder
On de stormy night
De heavy cool air
Round me cheek delights.

Everybody say Com:
Just one last chance to say goodby
On de last Hurrah to our Lost Paradise
To dat land we all love
Where de parakeets fly

To see all de sights and let the laughter flow
Where we played and danced the Tamborito
Oh yea, we dreamed and cried
Broke som hearts and said Good-by.

Everybody say Com--
To de market we will go
To buy fresh corvina and de platano
To taste de sweet milk from de coconut
Eat tropical fruit and de ginnup

Oh my sisters and brothers dey all hang out wid me
We watch de sloth climb de mango tree
We all jus one big family
Yea, we all jus one big family.

Doz nights in de tropics
So sweet and nice
De locusts all homming
De Canal lit up brite.

Organ music playing
Under open sky
Couples laughing and swaying
With dreams that won't die.

LOCO COCO

To the tune of Jimmy Crack Corn

When I was young I used to be
not in a hurry but feel so free
I lay back in de wicker chair.
and watch Iguana fly through de air

Maid in de kitchen but I don care(3 times)
Me hunger gone away.

I climb de giant mango tree
and eat yellow fruit and fill tummy
And play wid de beetle and de butterfly.
and no one say de time pass by

Mama at de commisary wid little book (3 times)
To buy de groceries.

My friends dey com to play wid me
I chase dem wid de caterpille
Dey tell me Myrna, you naughty child
I laugh don know me only wild.

Fodder he a hunting go (3 times)
To bring home venison.

If I could once again live free
Without a care to worry me
I'd go back to de wicker chair
And watch Iguana fly through de air.
