Library/Computers

Mrs. Hornung

It is the purpose of the library program to help children feel at home in the library, to guide their selections from an organized book collection, and to teach them how to use library tools and materials.  Throughout all grades, the appreciation of literature as a lifetime recreational activity is a main goal.
The Miller School Library circulates over 3500 titles and presently is the only Old Bridge Elementary School Library that uses a library automation system.
Each class visits the library once a week as an assigned period and during that time students have the opportunity to select books to take home.  Books are circulated for one week but may be renewed if necessary.

COMPUTER LAB NOTES

The internet has great potential for education.  In our library and computer lab, students will have access to the Internet.  Unfortunately, it also comes with the potential for abuse.
Each child (excluding kindergarten) brought home a copy of the OLD BRIDGE BOARD OF EDUCATION ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY. I have asked all students to give the policy
to their parents/guardians. Please read the policy very carefully and discuss with your child the importance of adhering to the guidelines.  All students must return the contract signed twice by the student and a parent.  No student will be allowed access to the internet until the contract is returned.

The computers in the library and computer lab use YAHOOLIGANS search engine as the home page.  This search engine is designed to allow only sites that have been previewed and rated acceptable for students ages 7-12.  Please visit the site at www.yahooligans.com

If you have any questions please contact Dr.Schavio or Mrs. Hornung and please remember to read and discuss the policy with your child.

VOCAL MUSIC

MRS. DANCISIN -  MRS. CAMPBELL

My classes are busy learning new songs about fall and friendship.  We are discovering the heartbeat of music which is the beat.  We have taken our pulse and listened to the beating of our hearts to know what a steady beat is.
We learned about Ludwig Von Beethoven's life and music and we really enjoyed the assembly program when he came to our school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Physical Education program at Miller School is based on the Old Bridge Elementary Physical Education Curriculum.   Activity units are initiated of, by and through human movement and evolved through concepts, skill and process development.

The measurable processes of agility, coordination, strength, endurance, balance and speed as well as the social processes of listening , following directions, sportsmanship, rules, teamwork, self-discipline and initiative are integral parts of these concepts.

Activity units typically last four to six weeks, and provide students with opportunities to develop to the best of their abilities in an enjoyable atmosphere.

Examples of our program will be highlighted on this page in future updates.  Please keep checking our site.
