pillow talk

I watched your breathing as you curved your back
against me, naked, sleeping, & you spoke.

It seems strange now that it did not provoke
more curiosity in me to track
your dreaming. & there was, that night, a lack
of darkness in my room when I awoke
to gaze at you & think about the smoke
end of days & laugh at the zodiac.

I remembered my hunger when we met,
& remembered that we had been somewhere
that you had filled my hunger with your wise
mouth, & how I prayed with thanks for your eyes.

Your lips were parted with no shadows there,
so I let you sleep & keep your secret.
