We welcome any suggestions which will further the welfare of 'THE VINEYARD'.

ANNUAL TRADITIONAL MASS UPDATES

Following is a list of updates of traditional masses approved under papal authority in order of recency. The time of the update is marked in bold in the international day.month.year format.  Items are generally removed from the list once they have been posted for one year.  All the updates, both as listed here and from the past, are integrated into our listings under each country.

THIRD BISHOP APPROVES INDULT IN THE PHILIPPINES IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR!

The Indult Mass is now starting to spread in the Philippines.  The Bishop of Bacolod become the third bishop there to approve an every-Sunday Indult Mass.  Here are the address & time particulars:

Immaculate Conception Church
Bakyas, Mansiligan, Bacolod City
Every Sunday:  3.30 p.m.
Sunday Rosary & Confessions:  3.00 p.m.

2.  03.07.2000:

GENERAL UPDATES

Mass Listings have been updated for the following countries:

A.  In Europe:  Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

In general, there has continued to be an extremely slow net increase in the number of Indult Masses.  In France, the Bishops of Agen, Cahors, Lille, and Montauban have allowed the Indult at least every Sunday while the Bishop of Beauvais has withdrawn such permission.  This means a net increase of three dioceses which have the Indult every Sunday.  In addition, in the Diocese of Le Havre, the Indult is now said every Sunday except in July and August.

In Germany, the Bishop of Münster has given permission for the Indult Mass to be offered every Sunday.

In Belgium, there is a new every-Sunday Mass in the Diocese of Tournai.

There have been more Masses added in Switzerland but always in dioceses in which there was already at least one Indult Mass every Sunday.  The Diocese of Basel now holds the record for the largest number of Indult Masses every Sunday.  It has seven or eight, more than the Archdiocese of New York, at six.

In Liechtenstein, we have added address particuliars for a new traditionalist religious order, the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood.

There has been little progress for the Indult in Italy, Ireland, or the United Kingdom.  In these countries, there are no new sees which permit the Indult every Sunday.

B.  In North America: The U.S.A.

In the U.S.A., the Indult Mass has recently been permitted in the Archdiocese of San Antonio (Texas).  Of the 33 U.S. cities having more than a million inhabitants, 30 now have the Indult every Sunday.  The hold-outs are Detroit, San Francisco, and Phoenix.  There are every-Sunday Eastern Rite Masses in all three of them and nearby Indults in neighbouring dioceses for the first two.

C.  In Asia:  There is now a second see in the Philippines in which an every-Sunday Indult Mass is offered.  It is the Diocese of Jaro-Iloilo.  After the Bishop of Jaro-Iloilo granted his permission, he died but the new Bishop of the Diocese has confirmed that the Indult Mass will continue.  This is all very exciting news for traditionalists in the Philippines.  Earlier this year, Cardinal Sin restored the Indult Mass in the Archdiocese of Manila.  Now their are two Philippine sees with Indult Masses celebrated on an every-Sunday basis.

D.  In Australia, there has been a net increase in the number of Indult Masses but no change in the number of sees allowing them every Sunday.  The Fraternity of St. Peter now has an apostolate in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

3. 20.02.2000:

BREAKTHROUGH IN SOUTH AMERICA!

A. FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL

In the past, this site has not been able to confirm any Indult Masses for the entire Continent of South America. There had been reports of Masses in Argentina and the Campos in Brazil but these were not confirmed. The Bishop of Anápolis in Brazil has now invited the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest to establish an apostolate in his see. The Institute has accepted and following are the address particulars of this first confirmed Indult Latin Mass in South America:

Catedral Bom Jesus

Anápolis - Goias, Brazil
Celebrant: Fr. Helio Buck, I.C.R.
Tel.: (00.55).62.974.93.37 or 62.324.24.28

B. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Since our last update in 1999, the Indult Latin Mass has been approved in another three sees and there are also a number of new Indult Masses to report in sees where they had already existed. As a result, the U.S.A. is now among the small number of countries in which a clear majority of the local ordinaries approve the public celebration of every-Sunday Indult Latin Masses. The three new sees are the dioceses of Sioux City, Colorado Springs, and Boise. There is also a second approved every-Sunday Indult Mass in the Diocese of Bridgeport (at Stamford), a third one in the Diocese of Peoria (at Princeville), and a second one in the City of St. Petersburg in the Diocese of the same title. The installation of new bishops in a number of U.S. sees is likely to mean yet more approvals in the new future.

The bad news is that Fr. William Asheley, O.M.M. has decided to close his centre in the Diocese of Camden and move elsewhere. It is apparent that the disposition of his apostolate was not favoured by the new bishop of Camden. It is hoped that this bishop will continue to permit the every-Sunday celebration of the Indult Mass.

Here are the address and time particulars for the foregoing Indult Masses:

Cathedral of the Epiphany

C. REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES

D. FRENCH REPUBLIC

There should be more updates for France soon. It has now been reported that the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest has established an apostolate in the Diocese of Lille, on the Belgian border. Here are the address and time particulars for the new Indult Mass there:

E. KINGDOM OF BELGIUM

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest has also established an apostolate in Belgium in the Diocese of Tournai. Tournai is the birthplace of Georges Rémi, known by the pen name 'Hergé'. He was the creator of Tintin, the greatest comic-strip hero in history. The Indult apostolate is situated in Brasmenil. Here are the address particulars:

E. REPUBLIC OF AUSTRIA

The most important news from Austria is that the Servants and Jesus and Mary, a society of apostolic life which celebrates Mass in latin both in the traditional rite and the new one, has opened a seminary and established an apostolate in the Diocese of Sankt Pölten. There are not yet any confirmed details regarding the times and places of its Indult Masses. Meanwhile, the Institue of Christ the King has established an apostolate in the Archdiocese of Salzburg, where the Fraternity of St. Peter also has one. Here are the address particulars of the Institute's new Indult Mass:

Haus Gasteg 21
A-5760 MARIA ALM
Salzburg, Austria
Celebrant: Fr. Michael Wiener
Tel./Fax: (00.43).65.84.77.43

E. COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA

Good things are happening down under! First of all, the Republicans were defeated in the referendum: a majority of Australians have chosen to remain loyal to Her Majesty the Queen. By the principle of heredity do the people of Australia continue to recognise that all political power comes from God and not from 'the will of the people'.

Secondly, the Fraternity of St. Peter has been invited to establish an apostolate in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Melbourne is the second most populous city in Australia. Its ordinary, Archbishop Pell is clearly seeing 'the signs of the times'. Fr. Rizzo, F.S.S.P. will apparently be stationed at Melbourne. Those of us who have had any dealings at all with him will appreciate how fortunate are the people of that city! News regarding Mass times and places for the new apostolate will be posted as soon as practicable.

E. DOMINION OF CANADA

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter has also been invited to expand into the Archdiocese of Vancouver, in the civil Province of British Columbia. Vancouver is the third most populous city in Canada. Archbishop Exner of Vancouver has invited the Fraternity to establish an quasi-parish which will offer all the Sacraments in the traditional rite in Latin. Times are a'changin'!

4. 24.8.99:

Secondly, the Bishop of Stockton (Cal.) has approved the celebration of an every-Sunday Indult Mass in his Diocese. Here are the particulars:

5. 17.8.99: DOMINION OF NEW ZEALAND

6. 7.8.99: REPUBLIC OF ITALY
