{jem'-in-y} Gemini, the Twins, a constellation of the zodiac, is seen best in the Northern Hemisphere. The two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, are named for the twin sons of Leda in Greek mythology. Pollux is a first-magnitude star. Castor, a second-magnitude star, is a triple star, and each of its components is a double star--making six stars in all. Gemini is located by extending an imaginary line from the two bottom stars in the Big Dipper's bowl away from the handle. Copyright (c) Grolier Electronic Publishing, Inc.
